Bullying No Way Week
Bullying No Way Week is an annual event, held from the 11th – 15th August in 2025. This year the theme is 'Be bold. Be kind. Speak up.' The national week of action is a chance for schools across Australia to stand together and say no to bullying by promoting kindness, inclusion, and respect.
Understanding Bullying
Bullying is more than just a disagreement or someone being unkind once. At TPS, we define bullying as:
“Picking on someone repeatedly in a physical, verbal, or psychological way. It’s about having power over someone else and can happen anywhere—at school, online, or in the community.”
We also help students recognize what isn’t bullying—like conflict, rudeness, or setting healthy boundaries.
The TPS Bully Prevention Policy, along with other school policies can be found on the TPS website. We are currently in the process of updating all policies relating to the Child Safety Standards. We’ll provide further information about this in upcoming newsletters.
We take a whole-school approach to preventing bullying and promoting wellbeing by:
- Building strong partnerships between the school, families and the broader community, that means all members work together to ensure the safety of students.
- Participating in the Respectful Relationships initiative, which aims to embed a culture of respect and equality across our school.
- Celebrating the diverse backgrounds of members of our school community and teaching multicultural education, including Aboriginal History.
- Participating in the Safe Schools program to help us foster a safe environment that is supportive and inclusive of LGBTIQA+ students.
- Incorporating classroom management strategies that discourage bullying and promote positive behaviour.
- Providing incursions and programs that raise awareness about bullying and its impacts.
- In the classroom, our social and emotional learning curriculum teaches students what constitutes bullying and how to respond to bullying behaviour assertively. This promotes resilience, assertiveness, conflict resolution and problem solving.
- Promoting upstander behaviour as a way of empowering our students to positively and safely take appropriate action when they see or hear of a peer being bullied.
- Encouraging students to talk to teachers about any unsafe behaviour they have experienced or witnessed.
Let’s continue working together to build a kind, safe and respectful school community where everyone feels a sense of connection and belonging.
