Mai Fali Eh: Songs and Stories of Timor-Leste
Celebrate Our Students – Celebrate 50 Years of Timorese Culture in Australia
Our choir students had an amazing day on Tuesday!! They worked so hard, and we're so proud of all their efforts, learning vibrant songs and stories from Timor-Leste.
They took to the stage at the Melbourne Town Hall with hundreds of voices from across Victoria to perform the powerful concert: Mai Fali Eh! Celebrating culture, connection, and community.
Thanks to our amazing parent helpers Jodie and Shelley for coming along!

NAIDOC, Sea Shanties and Orchestral Adventures!
Year 3/4 students have been busy in Music this term!
For NAIDOC we discussed Songlines and explored a song called Kuyawika (Fishing Net) from The Kaurna Songbook: Yurikurringa Ngadluku Paltirna.
We explored voice timbre and joined in with clap sticks and vocal sounds.
For more information about the songbook, check out this link:

Students have been finding their inner sailor/pirate to sing a sea shanty. We have been looking at what they are and having a go at singing while doing some ship work (hoisting the sails, scrubbing the deck, pulling up the anchor.
We have also started our orchestral adventure! We will be learning about the orchestra for the rest of this term, which will end in a trip to see the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra play at Hamer Hall on Friday 12th September.
NAIDOC and Rhythm, Rhythm, Rhythm!
Year 2s looked at the book Come Together Again by Isaiah Firebrace, which is a celebration of First Nations musicians. We listened to some music and linked the integrated topic of Celebrations.
Year 2s have been practicing rhythms - singing, saying and making. We are focussing on ta, ti-ti and za. We have played percussion instruments and ukuleles in lots of different combinations of these rhythms,
NAIDOC and telling stories!
Prep/1s explored dance features of First Nations dance for NAIDOC, including Kangaroo, emu and echidna. They learned why these features are important and practiced using their bodies in different ways.
Prep/1’s have also started to put music to stories! Finding different sounds to match different parts of the story.
