The Purpose of IB PYP Student-Led Conferences

On Wednesday 17 September, we will be holding Student-Led Conferences. This is a valuable opportunity for students to guide their parents or carers through a showcase of their learning and progress throughout the year.

Student-Led Conferences are a key component of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP). These conferences are designed to empower students by giving them ownership of their learning and an opportunity to actively reflect on their growth and achievements.

During the conference, students take the lead in sharing their learning journey with their parents or carers. They showcase work from across the year, explain their goals, and reflect on challenges and successes. This process encourages self-awareness, responsibility, and pride in their progress.

Unlike traditional parent-teacher interviews, the focus is on the student as the communicator, demonstrating the IB Learner Profile attributes such as being reflective, open-minded, and confident. Teachers facilitate the process and are available for brief discussions, but the spotlight remains on the student.

Student-Led Conferences not only strengthen the home-school partnership but also support students in becoming more independent, motivated, and engaged learners.

Warm regards,
