Learning Together - Free to Flourish

Everyone has a story. Our story reminds us of who we are, and who we are becoming. Free to Flourish is the story for Lutheran schools, grounded in Christian beliefs and values and a catalyst for ongoing improvement and innovation. Our learning story inspires a deep understanding of who we are, and how we are created for a relationship with God. We seek to honour the wisdom of our First Nations People as we grow an appreciation of the interconnectedness of all. Embracing the future with confidence, our learning communities grow learners who are compassionate, purposeful, adventurous and relational. At Good News we have been learning more about what this means for us.

The four elements of Free to Flourish are: Adventurous, Compassionate, Purposeful and Relational. These are all attributes we desire for GNLC students.

As we celebrate Science Week, being Adventurous is a wonderful mindset to have. Here is some more information about this attribute and the accompanying illustration.

Year 1 Werribee Zoo Excursion

Students had an exciting day at Werribee Zoo, taking part in a Habitat Hero workshop where they learnt about the essentials animals need in their habitats to survive. The adventure continued with a ride on the safari bus, followed by exploring the zoo’s walking trails. A highlight of the day was visiting the brand-new elephant enclosure 🐘.

We Need You! Share Your Expertise with Exhibition Groups

Year 6 students are in the midst of preparing for their PYP Exhibition – a rich, inquiry-based project where they investigate issues and opportunities that matter to them, take action, and share their learning with the community.

We know that our parent community holds an incredible range of knowledge, skills, and life experiences – and we’d love to tap into that! Whether you have professional expertise, personal stories, community connections, or practical skills, your contribution could inspire, guide, and support our students’ inquiries.

If you’re willing to help, please complete the Exhibition Expertise Form so we can connect you with groups whose topics align with your knowledge or interests.

For more information about the Year 6 Exhibition, please refer to our IB page.

Science Week – Learning with a Scientist

As part of Science Week, Year 5 teachers organised a special 'Chat with a Scientist' session. Students learned about the different strands of science and had the chance to hear directly from an expert – Dr Rana, Nishka’s dad, who studied medical science.

"He shared interesting facts about microglia – tiny but powerful cells in the brain. We learnt microglia have an important job: they clear away waste and dead neurons, fight viruses, and search the brain for things that need fixing."

- Viha (5D)

"We discovered that these cells play a vital role in keeping our brains healthy and helping us survive."

- Kalp (5D)

It was an exciting opportunity to learn together with an expert in our community, as well as see how science connects to real-life health and wellbeing. A huge thanks to Dr Rana for taking the time to work with our Year 5 students this week.

Hoppers Crossing Primary School District Athletics Carnival

On Tuesday 6 August, selected students from Years 3–6 proudly represented GNLC at the District Athletics Carnival, held at the Victoria University Sporting Complex.

These students had earned their place by qualifying through our recent school carnival, and they competed with enthusiasm and determination against other schools in the district.

We are incredibly proud of their efforts and achievements in reaching this level of competition. Well done to all who participated—you have represented our school with great sportsmanship and spirit!

24 Days to Go – Premier’s Reading Challenge

Congratulations to the 100 students who have already met the Premier’s Reading Challenge – what an amazing effort!

There are still 24 days left to take part, so if you haven’t finished yet, keep going!

Don’t forget to log the books you’ve read so you can meet the challenge and receive your signed certificate from the Premier.

Every book counts – so keep reading, keep recording, and let’s see how many more certificates we can earn as a school!

Provocation for Year 6 Exhibition

With this workshop, the students watched three ad campaigns for different causes.  One was about protecting our earth, the second was about not giving up and standing up for your beliefs, and the third was related to girls and the negative effects of social media (needing to look a certain way).

The students then used "loose parts" to recreate the ad that resonated the most with them. They took a picture of their finished piece and then wrote about why they chose that particular ad, what the message was and why they chose that particular ad.

Grandparents & Special Friends Day

Thank you to all the grandparents and special friends who joined us for the Prep–Year 2 Grandparents & Special Friends Day.

It was such a joy to see the smiles on our students’ faces as they performed songs and shared their sweet presentations with loved ones. Well done to all the students involved - you made the day truly special!
