Principal's Report

"Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today”. – Malcolm X

As we embark on a new school year filled with promise and potential, I am delighted to extend a warm welcome to all our students, families, and staff. It is a joyous occasion to see our classrooms once again bustling with energy and excitement, ready to embrace the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead.

A special welcome goes out to our new students and families who are joining us for the first time. Your presence enriches our school community, and we are thrilled to have you as part of the Monash SDS family. A heartfelt welcome is also extended to our newest Preps, who are beginning an exciting journey of discovery and learning.

One of the highlights of our return to school was our recent Read Aloud Day which was held in our new library. I had the pleasure of engaging in one of my favourite activities – reading to children. Witnessing their enthusiasm and imagination come to life through the pages of a book is truly magical.

On Read Aloud Day, we were also honoured to host author Reuben Collins on-site. Reuben captivated our students with his storytelling prowess, sharing his book and even crafting capes with the children. It was a memorable experience that highlighted the power of literature to inspire and ignite young minds. Look out for the photos in this newsletter.

Another highlight of our first week back was our rescheduled annual Family BBQ. It brings me great joy to see our staff and families come together, enjoying the festivities and camaraderie. From the animal farm to the much-loved sausage sizzle and of course, the much-anticipated ice cream truck! Was a beautiful evening for it and very enjoyed by all in attendance. Look out for photos below.

A warm welcome to our new and returning staff - Eimear Carroll – Teacher in Group 5 PREP, Siv Worner – Teacher in Group 2 E/E, Bridget Ellis – ES in Group 20 Junior Secondary, Emma Perry – ES in Group 15 Junior Primary, Esther McKee – ES in Group 8 Junior Primary, Breanna Hill – ES in Group 16 Senior Primary, Paul Nicol – ES in Group 23 Senior Secondary and Toby Russell – ES in Group 17 Senior Primary.

One of the significant milestones on our horizon is our upcoming school review. This comprehensive evaluation provides us with an invaluable opportunity to reflect on our practices, celebrate our achievements, and identify areas for growth. Through collaborative efforts and open dialogue, we will work together to ensure that Monash SDS continues to evolve as a beacon of excellence in special education.

Your input and participation are integral to this process, as we strive to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment that nurtures the holistic development of every student.

Thank you for your ongoing support and dedication to the Monash SDS community. I am confident that with our collective efforts, we will usher in a new era of excellence and achievement.
