Year 7 2024 Orientation Day

On Tuesday 12th of December, close to 200 hundred current year 6 students, filed through the gates of Thornbury High School and made their way to the auditorium. There was a mixture of trepidation, tears and excitement as they listened to Mr Oosterloo welcome them to THS and then reveal their 2024 classes. Each class was assigned to a teacher, with some eager current year 7 helpers and year 10 peer support leaders tasked with supporting our newest students throughout the day.

Orientation day was designed to be a fun way of getting to know each other and forming new friendships, as well as introducing students to school facilities and classes.

Students participated in dodgeball in PE, made rice paper rolls in Food Technology, selected an instrument in Performing Arts and undertook Orienteering around the entire school.

The day was a huge success and the students were settled and happy. At 2:50pm, students returned to the auditorium for a final word from Fionn O’Sullivan and Ryan Miller, and to watch a video that current students had made for them, welcoming them to THS. At 3:10pm, students were dismissed back into the arms of waiting parents.

A huge thank you to all the teachers, peer support leaders and year 7 helpers that made this day awesome for our new year 7s.
