Middle Learning News

Our wonderful Year 2/3 students have settled beautifully into their new learning space. Everyone is quickly becoming familiar with our learning procedures and expectations as we continue to establish our routines.

The start of the school year has involved lots of getting to know each other through games and activities. After we read Pig the Blob, students identified the importance of having expectations in our classroom to ensure we can support each other the best we can.

Some of these expectations include:

Listening to each other,

Including everyone,

Smiling and showing kindness,

Ask questions,

Lend a hand,

Try your best and it’s ok to make mistakes.

To add to this, students also came up with some classroom jobs to ensure we all have a role in ensuring the smooth running of our classroom. It also reinstalls the value of caring for our learning space. Some of these roles include prayer monitors, bin monitors, schedule monitors, stationery monitors, light monitors, and teacher helpers.

Reading Folders/Nightly Reading

All students have been given their own reading folder and reading diary that they have been taking home and returning daily. The diary is used to record nightly reading and can be used as an informal means of communication. Some students have additional resources in their folder, which include activities reflecting the book they are reading or some cards to be practised. If you have any questions regarding any of this, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

During mathematics, we have been practising counting through some hands-on games and we began to discuss some place value concepts. We have looked at time in the form of our weekly timetable along with this term’s many exciting events. A reminder that our sports days (runners required) are Tuesdays and every second Thursday.

During religious education, we have read and reflected on Isiah Firebrace’s picture book, Come Together, and another book, Respect, by Aunty Fay and Sue Lawson. Students collected gum leaves and decorated them for our Acknowledgement to Country poster. Students were shown the Aboriginal map of Australia, sparking many questions. We look forward to learning more about this throughout the year.

We loved sharing our morning meeting with a very special visitor!

The buzz is high in the Year 2/3 space and we are loving every moment. Some students are feeling a little tired by the end of the week, so I hope everyone has a restful weekend.

Please do not hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions!

Have a great weekend.
