Welcome to 2024!
As we embark on the 2024 academic journey together, I extend a warm welcome to everyone - students, parents and staff but in particular our new foundation students and their families. The smiles I have seen on the children's faces as they say goodbye to their parents and walk proudly into their classroom so full of confidence brings me so much joy and happiness. The smiles I see on the parent's faces as their children leave them, knowing that they are in such good hands fills my heart with pride for the amazing work all the staff have done to ensure this smooth transition. I am excited about the promising year ahead, filled with opportunities for growth, collaboration, and shared successes. Let's embrace this journey together with enthusiasm, teamwork, and a shared commitment to the bright future that awaits us.
New Staff
We welcome Shania Anderson as our 4/5/6 teacher this year who has already made a huge impact on the students in her care. Shania has quickly got to know the students and is setting about making a culture of learning, engagement and laughter in the space.
We also welcome Macey Auld who will be working 2 days a week (Thursday and Friday) in a Learning Support capacity while we support her in obtaining her Permission to Teach registration. With the current shortage of teachers I am forward thinking and planning ahead for the future of St Joseph's. The skills and knowledge that Macey brings to our school will be greatly utilised. I know you will welcome both girls to our community.
Welcome BBQ
I would like to warmly welcome and encourage all our families to join us next Thursday evening 15th February for our Welcome BBQ from 6-7pm. This will be a great opportunity for old and new families to come together and meet each other, meet our staff and see your child’s learning spaces. We look forward to seeing you all there. Sausages/onions/coleslaw and bread will be provided - byo drinks.
Tuesday 'Choose-Day' afternoon
What a success our first 'Choose-Day' afternoon was for everyone - I'm not sure who enjoyed it more the students or the staff. some staff were so engaged they forgot to take any photos - we look forward to seeing them next time.
Opening Mass
Yesterday we celebrated our Opening Mass with Fr Rene. It was a lovely way to introduce the school year and acknowledge our Year 6 leaders as they embark on their final year of primary education. Thank you to Ebony for her time in compiling the mass and making it so meaningful to our students.
Fabulous Fruit Platters
Something we are trialling at the moment is having a fruit platter in each of the classrooms to graze on throughout the morning session. This has occurred the last two Wednesdays and has been a hit. It's a great opportunity for the students to try new fruits/vegetables, learn manners in waiting turns and not being greedy and hygiene about handling food. Each Wednesday morning before school we will have a basket on display near the staffroom that students can put their piece of fruit/vegetable in that will be shared amongst the classes. This activity will also be used for so many teaching points like graphing favourite foods, writing pieces etc etc - we can't wait to see all the benefits this will offer.
Have. wonderful weekend everyone.
Take care and stay safe
