Library

It has been a fantastic first term for 2026 here in the library! Thank you to everyone for encouraging your children to read at home and for making sure books come back to school. If you see any books at home with the “Melton West P.S” barcode on the back and a white label with either a single letter (Picture book), 3 letters (Chapter book or graphic novel) or numbers on the back (Non-fiction book), these need to come back to school before we go on holidays.

Here are the Term 1 Library Statistics for 2026.

  • 113 books were added to the library’s collection. A slow start to the year but I have spent a lot more time organising the library this year.
  • 2’273 loans in Term 1 over 8 weeks - with student specific loans being 1’323.
  • Total loans per year level (as they are split for planning) for Term 1:
    • Prep: 125
    • 1/2s: 434 → making them the most borrowing year level!
    • 3/4s: 428
    • 5/6s: 336
  • Top borrowing classes for each year level (as split across classrooms):
    • Prep C = 42
    • 1C = 56
    • 2B = 113
    • 3/4D = 123 → making them the most borrowing class in the entire school!
    • 5/6B = 113
  • Our top borrowing teacher this term is Ms Warren with 281 loans for her classroom 3/4C.

The top 10 student borrowers for Term 4 were:

  • Chloe McFarlane 3/4D - 16
  • Achatak Panthum 3/4D - 14
  • George Balebanga 2B - 12
  • Jai Blair 2B - 12
  • Chiziterem Ejikeme 3/4F - 12
  • Luna Skinner 2B - 12
  • Safa Waqar 2B - 12
  • Hayley Bryant 3/4F - 11
  • Sarah Qureshi 5/6B - 11
  • Inaaya Alam 2B - 10

These classes and students should be very proud of their efforts and have received their certificates already.

Our top 3 student borrowers Chloe, Achatak and George will all receive a $10 voucher to use on a Scholastic Book Club order to further celebrate their wonderful efforts. Thanks to Sam from Scholastic, we can do this for our top 3 borrowers each term for this year!

Next term I will be using the Class Dojo calendars for each individual class to set reminders for when books need to be coming back to school to help combat the amount of books we are marking as lost. I’ll trial it for the term and if there are too many issues, we’ll go back to how it is currently.

Please reach out to me via Class Dojo (Miss Reed) if you have any questions or concerns.

I hope you all have wonderful holidays and I’m keen to see what we can achieve next term in the library!

Bye for now,

Miss Tye
