Spotlight on the Sustainability Leadership Team at Ripponlea …
Over the next few weeks we’ll get to meet the Rippers who are showing up and doing their part in making Ripponlea Primary more aware about the importance of sustainability practices & how we think and act in our school.
Today we get to meet Emilia, deeply connected and passionate about animals and the care of their environments.
If we look at the amazing Jane Goodall & her work in conservation & protection of chimpanzees - Her persistence and passion were key in the impact she made. Check out why we think Emilia will be making a difference too & not only in our school.
Favourite movie? Wicked
Favourite food? Cheese Pizza
Favourite place in nature?
The Savannah… I like animals and particularly cheetahs and lions … I’ve never been there but I’d love to go there one day and see it for myself.
Who inspires you to care about the planet? My dog Crunchie - I love him- he’s this cute cavoodle.
Why did you choose to be part of the Sustainability Leadership Group at Ripponlea?
I always wanted to be in the Sustainability team and I missed out last year… but I got in this year. I’ve always loved the environment and want to make a difference even though I’m not too sure on what that is.
What's one thing you already do to help the environment?
I pick up litter when I see it in the community and in the school.
If you could change one thing at our school to make it more sustainable, what would it be?
More Solar Panels (so our school runs on more sustainable energy sources).
What's the one unique quality you have that will help you make a difference?
My empathy, my creativity and I love animals.
Yes - we agree - those qualities will be so important for leaders of the future.
Thanks Emilia for letting g us get to know you a little better.
Next newsletter we look forward to hearing from the Sustainability Team leader, Maddie… watch this space.
Just a quick word also on the Japanese Garden:
The 3/4s planted several Japanese varieties of carrot aswell as silverbeet, snowpeas and spring onions in their garden.
They also harvested a reluctant pumpkin, collecting the seeds for the next planting cycle. We are definitely wishing for a bounty of pumpkins for Ripponlea soon 🤞.
In closing, welcome to new parent Tali who has joined the Sustainability Committee & gardening crew - more hands definitely make light work and we love that you have come on board.
