Principal's Patch

Welcome back to Term 2
Welcome back to Term 2. Once again, our school priorities remain Reading, Engagement, and a Sense of Belonging. It has been fantastic to see these priorities alive and well in classrooms every day.
I’d like to acknowledge the great work of our staff, particularly in fostering a strong Sense of Belonging for every student. This continues to be a real strength of our school. It has also been pleasing to see high-quality teaching of Reading across classrooms, with students engaged and making strong progress.
ANZAC Day
Our school ANZAC ceremony this year was a very moving occasion. The behaviour of our students was outstanding—over 900 students and you could hear a pin drop. The respect shown was something our whole community can be proud of.
A sincere thank you to our guests from Elanora SHS, whose bugle performance added greatly to the atmosphere. Our choir, led by Mrs Riordan, also delivered a beautiful and moving performance.
On ANZAC Day, School Captains Lincoln and Parker represented our school at the Currumbin RSL Dawn Service. It was a powerful ceremony, and they represented our school magnificently. Thank you also to the students and families who represented our school at the ANZAC Day march later in the day at Currumbin—it was great to see such strong support, even in the wet weather.
Guidance Officer Week
We would like to recognise and thank Miss Nat, our Guidance Officer, for the incredible work she does supporting students and families across our school. Her contribution makes a real difference to the wellbeing of our community.
Farewell Mr Hitchins
After 8 years of dedicated service, we will be saying goodbye to Mr Hitchins next Friday as he and his family relocate to Yamba. Mr Hitchins has been a valued member of our school community, and we thank him for his significant contribution. We wish him and his family all the very best for the future.
Year 6 Camp
We wish our Year 6 students all the best as they head to Tangalooma for camp next week. This is our first time at this location and it promises to be a fantastic experience.
Thank you to the staff attending for giving up time with their own families to provide this opportunity for our students.
New School Song
Last week we proudly introduced our new school song. The lyrics have been updated to better reflect our school, particularly our focus on belonging and kindness.
A huge thank you to Mrs Riordan, who supported Selah, Isabelle and Tilly in recording the song in a professional studio. This was an incredible experience for the students, and the result sounds fantastic.
Pre-Service Teachers
We currently have a number of pre-service teachers working across our school. We welcome them to our community and know they will gain valuable experience here. We appreciate the support our students and families show in helping them feel welcome.
Semester One Report Cards
Semester One report cards will be sent home in Week 10 this term. These reports provide a summary of your child’s progress and achievement across all learning areas, as well as valuable information about their effort and engagement. We encourage all families to take the time to read through the report carefully and discuss it with your child, celebrating their successes and identifying areas for continued growth. If you have any questions regarding your child’s report, please don’t hesitate to contact their classroom teacher.
Queensland Engagement and Wellbeing Survey
This week, students in some of our Year 4, 5 and 6 classes participated in the Queensland Engagement and Wellbeing Survey. This survey provides valuable insight into students’ experiences both at school and in their broader lives, including their overall wellbeing, sense of belonging, relationships and engagement. The information gathered will help us better understand the needs of our students and inform our planning moving forward, ensuring we continue to strengthen both wellbeing and engagement across our school.
Uniform Reminders
As we move into the cooler months, please remember to clearly name all jumpers, jackets and tracksuit pants, as we always see a large amount of lost property during winter.
A reminder of our uniform expectations:
- Hair should be natural in colour for all students. Coloured hair is not in line with our school dress code. If your child currently has coloured hair, we ask that this is rectified at their next haircut.
- Tracksuit pants are not part of the school uniform.
- Hair that falls below the shirt collar must be tied up.
- White socks are to be worn (not black or coloured).
- Black shoes only—no white soles or stripes.
- Jewellery is limited to studs or sleepers and a plain watch. This is the only jewellery permitted.
Phones and Watches
In line with Queensland Department of Education policy, students are not permitted to use phones or smart watches at school. These devices must be signed in at the office each morning and signed out in the afternoon. They cannot be used by students at any time within school grounds (gate to gate).
Parking
Please be mindful of parking restrictions around the school to ensure the safety of all students. In particular, there is no parking on Nineteenth Avenue in the Kiss and Go zone. This is essential for maintaining safe traffic flow.
Gold Coast City Council parking inspectors have been active in recent weeks, so please follow all signage and regulations to avoid fines.
Parent volunteers
We are looking for parent volunteers who would like to help in our library before school. If you do have some spare time, we would love some help with keeping our library looking clean and organised. Please feel free to pop into the office for more information.
PREP ENROLMENT DATES 2007
P-2 NRL Gala Day
We’ve got an exciting day coming up! The awesome NRL instructors will be visiting for our Gala Day Carnival on Friday, 22nd of May.
Gala Day Carnival is a fun event where Prep - 2 classes compete against each other in games of Rugby Tag (Touch). The students already understand how to play, as they've been practicing during their PE sessions with rugby coaches.
The NRL will be running the event on the oval. They’ll be moving around different fields to play against other classes.
If everyone can arrive 5–10 minutes before their scheduled times, that would be super helpful to keep everything running smoothly. Students arrive at their allocated times only then they are finished.
Can’t wait for a great day !!
Scheduled times:
8:50am: Arrive at the oval
9:00-9:50am: Grade 1
9:55 -10:45am: Prep
11:00 - 11:30am: Year 6 Vs Teachers
11:30-12:45pm: Years 2
