Hello from 2P

This term in Year 2 has been filled with exciting learning, memorable experiences, and opportunities to grow together as a class. One of the highlights was our incredible excursion to the Museum of Play and Art, where we explored imaginative spaces, experimented with hands-on art activities, and engaged in creative play. It was wonderful to see everyone working as a team, sharing their ideas, and treating the exhibits and each other with respect.
Back in the classroom, we dove into new strategies for addition and subtraction in Maths. We explored different ways to solve problems, including using number lines, jump strategies, counting on and back, and the vertical algorithm. These strategies helped us build confidence and flexibility in our thinking and showed resilience when faced with challenging problems. We have also started our volume and capacity unit where the students have had multiple opportunities to explore this both physically and in theory. The students have adored the opportunity to compare and order containers which hold differing capacities.
In Science, we investigated the water cycle, learning how water moves through stages of evaporation, condensation, precipitation, and collection. We used diagrams, songs, and even mini water cycle experiments to understand this natural process. We also discussed how important it is to conserve water and protect our environment, showing how responsible and thoughtful our class has become.
In Inquiry, we explored modes of transport and how they have changed over time — from horses and carts to cars, trains, and aeroplanes. We were fascinated by the way transport has shaped people’s lives and the world around us. Importantly, we learned about the impact transport has on the environment, and we thought of ways we can help by choosing more sustainable options like walking or riding bikes. These rich discussions showed how much we care about the planet and each other.
Throughout the term, our class has shown amazing growth, not just in what we've learned but in how we support one another. We’ve practiced teamwork in group tasks, shown respect in our words and actions, built resilience when learning felt tough, and taken responsibility for our work and choices. This term has been a wonderful chapter in our learning journey, and we are proud of everything we’ve achieved together.
