From the Leadership Team

Dear families,
Welcome back to Term 3! We hope you had a wonderful break - we have been hearing all about some of the adventures our community enjoyed, and all of the fun things the students got up to over the last two weeks. We are so excited to see everyone back at school ready for another busy term of learning.
Welcome to our new students
This term we would like to give a very special welcome to our brand new Reception students who have begun their school journey with Mrs. Young and Mrs. T in Room 4. The students have settled in so well to the routines and rhythms of school life, and we are thrilled to have them join us here at Modbury School. Our new Reception students have been telling us:
"this is the best school ever'
'I am loving coming to school!'
We would also like to give a very special welcome to our brand new Pre-School students. The students have been so brave during their first week, settling in well to their new learning environment, engaging with learning activities and meeting new friends. We are so excited to see all of the adventures they have at Pre-School this year.
Wear Your Colours
The students wasted no time in asking, and so this Friday (Week 1) we are having a 'Wear Your Colours' day in celebration of the upcoming AFL showdown. We love the fact that our students are so connected to our school and suggest activities to build belonging and connection across the school! We invite all of the students to wear their team colours (footy, netball, soccer, any sporting teams are encouraged) for a gold coin donation. All money raised will go towards new basketball backboards and rings. This is payable via QKR!
2025 Australian Primary Principal's Day - Friday 1st August
Next Friday, 1st August, is Australian Primary Principals Day, and this special day is dedicated to recognising the hard work, dedication, and leadership of our school’s principal and leadership team.
At Modbury School, we are fortunate to have a team that is committed to fostering a nurturing and inspiring environment for our students. Their vision and guidance play a crucial role in shaping the educational journey of our children.
We encourage families to take a moment to express their appreciation to our Modbury Leadership Team and celebrate the positive impact our leadership team has on our school community.
Term 3 Open Afternoon
Our Term 3 Open Afternoon event will be in Week 4. The children will be sharing their learning spaces with families, reading stories, playing games, and sharing their favourite pieces of work. We hope you can come along.
Book Week 2025
It's time to start planning your Book Week Costume!
The 2025 Children's Book Week theme is Book an Adventure! This theme invites us to explore the limitless possibilities that reading offers. Books have the power to transport us to distant lands, introduce us to fascinating characters, and spark our imaginations. Through reading, children can embark on adventures that enhance their creativity, critical thinking, and empathy.
In Term 3, we will celebrate Book Week and encourage our students to dive into stories that inspire curiosity and wonder. Reading is not just a pastime; it's a gateway to understanding the world and ourselves.
We have booked a live performance for Book Week called 'Treasure Hunt'. This will be on Friday 8th August for the whole school.
The cost for your child to attend this live performance will be $5.00 and this is available to pay via Qkr!. This is a subsidised amount for this incursion for families, as the school is paying the remaining amount per child to attend. Please ensure you have paid the $5.00 amount for your child.
The importance of After-School Supervision
Ensuring the safety and well-being of our students is a top priority at Modbury School P-6. Students must remain under the supervision of their parents or guardians if they choose to play in the school yard after school hours, which we encourage. This supervision helps prevent accidents and ensures that children are safe while enjoying their time outdoors.
Additionally, for students walking home, it is essential that they leave the school premises promptly and walk in groups, if possible, to enhance their safety.
Students waiting to be picked up must stay under the supervision of the yard duty teacher near the Reflection Garden. This designated area ensures that students are safe and accounted for, rather than playing unsupervised in the school yard.
We appreciate your cooperation in keeping our school community safe and secure.
