Foundation (Prep)

English

We have continued to introduce new sounds to expand students knowledge of  words and spelling patterns. Preps were introduced to the letter 'z' and digraphs (two letters that make one sound), 'zz', 'ee',  and 'qu'.

We regularly practise reading and writing sentences; starting with a capital letter and ending with a full stop or question mark. Students were encouraged to recall the events of Athletics Day and have a go at writing their thoughts in sentences. We also made connections to a story book that we read called, Click, Clack, Moo by Doreen Cronin, and then we wrote about what we can see at a farm.

Maths

Over the past two weeks, students have been learning about sharing collections into equal groups. We have watched videos, practised sharing in role play and with hands-on mathematical resources. After multiple opportunities to model their understanding, students were then asked to record their responses in their Workbooks.

Athletics Day

One of the highlights this fortnight was Athletics Day. Prep students are often a little bit nervous about all the new experiences the day offers, including travelling on a bus. However, once we left school, nerves quickly subsided and the excitement grew.

Mr Webber had prepared the students for the events during their PE lessons, which included running races, shot put, discus, high jump and long jump. The class spontaneously started building sand castles in the vacant long jump pit while they were waiting for their turn to jump - very cute! I think the smiles say it all - we had a great day!

Looking forward to Book Week next week!

Have a nice weekend,

Mrs Callaway
