Nature, Nerves & New Memories

Mrs Rasulova | Health and PE Teacher

Our recent Year 11 and 12 Outdoor Education camp was a memorable experience that challenged students physically, mentally, and emotionally as they explored the rugged beauty of Western Australia’s natural environment. Through adventurous, curriculum-linked activities like abseiling, caving, and hiking, students applied their technical skills and knowledge while supporting one another in demanding situations. These activities fostered problem-solving, resilience, endurance, and practical navigation skills, providing an authentic and challenging outdoor experience.

Throughout the camp, students showed significant growth in leadership, self-management, and teamwork. They adapted to unpredictable weather, collaboratively set up shelters, managed equipment, and prepared meals under difficult conditions. Despite the physical and emotional demands, each student demonstrated perseverance and courage, truly “conquering the elements” and emerging with greater confidence and a deeper connection to the outdoors.

We sincerely thank the students for their outstanding efforts, the parents for their ongoing support, and the dedicated staff for making this camp possible. Their professionalism and care ensured its success. We are incredibly proud of all participants; this camp stands as a highlight of their Outdoor Education journey, leaving lasting lessons and memories beyond the classroom.

Celebrating Diversity in Style!

All Year 12s were asked to design and create a cultural garment for a culture of their choice. The range of garments and investigations differed greatly between each student as they defined their idea of what a cultural garment meant to them. Both through their design and production of the garments, they have produced some incredible pieces. We took some time to take some pictures of the pieces to capture the hard work that went into what they completed. I am beaming with pride at what they have all achieved during this task, and I’m looking forward to the next project they complete. All pieces will be on display at the Technologies showcase in September.

Perth SkillsWest Career Expo

Mrs Dlugocz | VET Coordinator and Career Teacher

Our Year 11 and 12 Career and Employability students had an inspiring time at the Perth SkillsWest–Career Expo 2025. They explored a wide range of apprenticeship opportunities, connected with South Metro and North Metro TAFE providers for future study options, and received personalised course counselling around university pathway options. Over 160 organisations showcased their industries, including Construction and Trades, Health & Medical Sciences, Defence, Technology & Cybersecurity, Arts & Media, and Hospitality & Tourism, ensuring every student found something that sparked their interest.

It was wonderful to see students engage in hands-on activities, gather industry insights, and meet exhibitors from government bodies and private employers. Many left feeling confident and excited about their career prospects. We look forward to seeing them use this knowledge to actively shape their future pathways!

Student Success in the KIC iCAREER Program!

Mrs Dlugocz | VET Coordinator

We’re proud to celebrate two of our Year 10 students who have been selected to take part in the KIC iCAREER Project– an initiative designed for students who are considering a trade or VET pathway in senior school. The iCAREER Program gives students from KIC Education Partnership schools a unique opportunity to explore the real world of industry right here in Western Australia’s major industrial hub – the Kwinana Industrial Area (KIA).

Congratulations to our students for taking this important step in exploring their futures. We can’t wait to see how the experience shapes your career journey!

Lessons From the Zoo

Mrs Stefani Lorenzen | Secondary Teacher

Mrs Blythe and I had the privilege of accompanying Year 12 ATAR students on an excursion to the Perth Zoo. The Human Biology ATAR students attended a presentation on how comparative anatomy, physiology, and behaviour are used to identify the similarities and differences within the Hominidae (Great Ape) family.

Meanwhile, the Psychology ATAR students learned how principles of learning—such as operant conditioning—are applied in the care and management of the zoo’s animals. Later, students participated in a hands-on session exploring desensitisation techniques and were even given the opportunity to touch a snake. We then enjoyed lunch together before spending the rest of the day exploring the wide variety of animals the zoo has to offer.
