Wellbeing

A message from Emily Murcott - Assistant Principal / Wellbeing Literacy
At Rolling Hills Primary School, our whole-school approach supports the wellbeing of students, staff and families. Our aim is for all of our community to flourish, because when we are flourishing, we are then learning at our optimum, resulting in feeling good, functioning well and therefore thriving in life.
We also believe that supporting our children to feel safe, valued, and confident is essential for both their learning and their personal growth.
Over the next few weeks, I will be sharing with you the different approaches that we refer to during our school days here at RHPS. These approaches are evidence-based approaches that give students strategies to apply when needed; some may refer to these combined strategies as a “toolbox”.
In no particular order, this week we will focus on the Resilience Rights and Respectful Relationships Program (Respectful Relationships Program).
What is Respectful Relationships?
In 2016, respectful relationships education became a core component of the Victorian Curriculum from foundation to year 12 and is being taught in all government and Catholic schools as well as many independent schools.
This evidence-based initiative is designed to give students the knowledge, skills, and strategies they need to develop positive relationships, build resilience, and navigate life’s challenges with confidence. It promotes respect, equality, and positive attitudes/behaviours, aiming to teach children and young people how to build healthy relationships, ultimately contributing to a culture of safety and respect. Respectful Relationships is about keeping our children safe.
Through engaging lessons and practical activities, students explore topics such as:
- Emotional Literacy – recognising and understanding feelings in themselves and others
- Personal Strengths – identifying what makes them unique and capable
- Coping Skills – learning strategies to manage change and challenges
- Respectful Relationships – developing kindness, empathy, and inclusion in friendships
The Respectful Relationships program aligns beautifully with our school values and complements the positive culture we foster at RHPS. By learning these important life skills early, students are better equipped to thrive—not only at school, but in all aspects of their lives.
We encourage families to talk with their children about what they are learning in these sessions. Simple conversations at home about feelings, strengths, and respectful behaviour help strengthen the messages they receive at school.
Together, we are creating a caring and connected community where every child feels respected, supported, and ready to shine.
Because no child should miss out on the opportunity to play team sport…
If your child would like to participate in sport outside of school, however finances are tight please open the attached document and contact Team Sports 4 All. They may be able to support this to happen :)

Emily Murcott
