Sport report Term 3 2025

Term 3 is when competitive sport and competitions start to slow down after a busy first two terms. We have continued to strive and increase opportunities for students to be involved in sporting events.

Athletics

From the success of our students successfully making it to zone at the end of term 2, we had several students who progressed on to SSW in Week 3 this term. Despite the weather conditions not being ideal at our zone carnival, we had 9 students representing TRED over the two days. Congratulations to the following students who attended the SSW carnival:

Taitum Whiu
Viliami Tuipulotu
Kiana Nukunuku
Aiesha Orgo

Congratulations to Taitum, Aiesha and Layla who were all successful in progressing to the CHS Athletics Championships which took place in Week 8, Term 3. It was the first time these students have attended the state finals, and they did themselves, families and our school very proud of their achievements this year.

Tuesday sport

This term has not worked in our favour for Tuesday sport due to the weather conditions that have not allowed us to run our competitions as normal. We have also had very important whole school events occurring on Tuesdays which meant we were unable to run sport as usual. All students have been fantastic in the changes and challenges that we have faced this term and displayed positive attitude and understanding.

As part of our sporting schools funding this term, we were lucky to have two organisations come out and run sport specific programs with Stage 4 netball and ball sports.

Sydney Sport Institute also attended for four weeks to work with the field sports group. They focused on soccer, oztag and ultimate frisbee skills and game understanding. Each group rotated to a different sport each week to have a game sense approach in increasing game play from all students.

Netball was fortunate to have Kaitlyn from Netball NSW come out for four weeks to improve their understanding of the game, skills and abilities and game tactics. This was run alongside the weekly competition which improved the confidence of all students in netball.

Stage 5 oztag has shown a high level of competition this term in sport. All teams played with such high sportsmanship each week and worked well displaying positive teamwork skills. Well done to all those involved in competitive oztag.

Students who have participated in the non-competitive options have continued to improve their skills and abilities in a large variety of sports covered each week. It is a good opportunity for students to experiment with new sports to widen their understanding of sports during this time.

Congratulations to the following teams who won their competitions for sport:

Stage 4

Stage 5

Netball - Purple team: Ezekiel, Sia, Brooklyn, Paris, Kiana, Amira, Kahla, Ahlyana, Gemma, Avaleigh and Dannilee  Oztag – Green team: Alosina, Cameron, Cayleb, Charlotte, Denzel, Emilee, Ethan, Kayden, Meladee, Tia, Zofia and Sebastian.
European Handball – Isaac, Isaac, Braiden, Cruise, Shriyaan and Josh

I encourage students to choose a different sport that they would not usually play to challenge themselves in their skill and development. Remember, sport is meant to be fun and engaging and you only get what you put in.

A reminder to all students that each week in competitive sports, teachers will be awarding MVP points to 3 students who deserve the nominations. These points are collated over the term and will be recognised at the end of the year for their achievement.

Sport selections have been completed for Term 4 as students have had the opportunity to select a sport that is offsite. Students who have participated all year in sport have been given the chance to try a recreational activity for Weeks 2-6.

Knockout sports

Term 3 is when knockout sports start to slow down, and we all get to breathe. Although we didn’t get the results, we all would have dreamed of, our teams represented the TRED core values in a positive way.

U15 Girls Netball

Well done to our U/15’s netball team who played in the knockout competition. The girls had a win and two losses against some tough competition. They never gave up and represented TRED with pride. Thank you to Synceer for umpiring and congratulations to Brooklyn who was voted most valuable player by her teammates.

U15’s Boys Basketball

On Thursday the 21st of August, the U/15’s Boys Basketball team participated in the Macarthur Zone Basketball Knockout at Oran Park Leisure Centre.  The team consisted of Gerimar De Leon, Ryan Kunert, Aiden Moukachar, Dwayne Siao, Eddie Sio and Bardia Kiani.  The team participated in three competitive games against Oran Park, Elizabeth Macarthur, and Mount Annan, giving their best effort throughout each match.

Despite their strong commitment and determination, the team faced worthy opponents and came up short in all three contests, with final scores of 22 to 9 against Oran Park, 36 to 5 against Elizabeth Macarthur, and 29 to 19 against Mount Annan. Throughout the day, the team maintained a fair and consistent level of play, showing impressive sportsmanship and respect towards their opponents.

Their attitude and conduct on the field were exemplary, reflecting positively on Thomas Reddall High School and deserving of recognition for the way they represented the school.

Other sports news

Year 9 & 10 Wanderers Fives Schools Cup

Students did TRED proud at the Western Sydney Wanderers Schools Cup on Wednesday 20 August! Braving the rain, both boys and girls competed in a five-a-side round robin tournament at the brand-new Wanderers Fives Facility. ⚽️🌧️

Congrats to the girls on their first win and a tough draw, and a big well done to both teams for showing incredible determination, teamwork and school spirit all day. 👏

Bulls in Schools Football Program

On Friday 5th September, selected students from Years 7–10 took part in the Bulls in Schools program, enjoying an hour-long football session led by the Macarthur Bulls Football Club development and coaching staff. Students had a fantastic time building their physical literacy and football fundamentals through movement games, skill stations, and small-sided games.

Gala Days

Gala days are an opportunity for students in Years 7 and 8 to participate in an organised competition against the other schools in our zone. This year, both cohorts had the choice out of playing oztag, soccer and netball. It was fantastic to see so many of our students taking on the opportunity to be active and have a fun day out.

We were blessed on both days to have the sun shining and perfect weather which added to a great day outside. Our teams had mixed results across both days, but all had fun which is the main objective of gala days.

A massive shoutout to our coaches/referee students who attended across the two days to support our juniors and to allow the days to run.
