100 Days of Prep Celebration – Thursday 24 July

On Thursday the 24th of July, our Preps marked a very special milestone – 100 Days of School! To celebrate, the students came dressed as what they want to be when they grow up. From scientists and athletes to doctors, builders and artists, it was wonderful to see their dreams on display and hear them proudly share their aspirations.

The day began with families joining us in the classroom for a morning of fun, hands-on activities themed around the number 100. The room buzzed with excitement as children and parents worked together on puzzles, crafts, and counting challenges.

This was followed by a 100 Days of School assembly, where our Preps sand some special songs, recited poems and were celebrated for all they’ve learned and achieved so far this year.

Back in the classroom, we enjoyed a class party, played party games and decorated our very own 100 Days of School biscuits – a sweet way to finish off a fantastic day of celebration.

It was a great day, and a wonderful way to reflect on how far the Preps have come in just 100 days!

Book Week

Over the course of term two, a team of seven year 6 students: myself, Izzy W, Alyssa L, Khalissa K, Jarrah H, Oliver Al and Minnie B have been reading the six shortlisted books from the Children’s Book Council Australia [CBCA], Early Childhood category to all classes in the school.

We would come in during their library sessions or eating time and read one of the books to them, until eventually we read them all!

We have put so much effort into this, giving up our lunch eating and class time to assist our wonderful librarians, Ms Mundy and Ms Skelton.

The CBCA Books Awards shortlist are six books that have been chosen from all throughout Australia as some of the best books around. Schools will vote on their favourite book to win the overall award. For our school, each class will get a vote of which of the six books is best. We will then tally up the votes to see which book our school will be voting for. We look forward to seeing which book our school has chosen!

On Monday 18 August, we will be having a book parade! Feel free to dress up as your favourite book character and show off your awesome costume!

Introducing Riley

Hello, I’m Riley (she/her), a registered psychologist (clinical registrar), and I’m excited to have joined Auburn South Primary School as the newly appointed school psychologist. I’m really looking forward to becoming part of the ASPS community and supporting the wellbeing and learning of our students.

I’ll be available at the school on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

In my role, I provide student support through classroom observations, short-term counselling, small group interventions, and by assisting teachers to implement effective, individualised strategies in the classroom. I take a holistic, child-centred approach to practice, drawing on a range of evidence-based methods. I place strong emphasis on understanding each student’s unique needs and strengths, and aim to support their development in a way that is respectful, inclusive, and empowering.

I have experience working across the lifespan, from young children through to older adults, and have worked in a variety of mental health settings. I am particularly passionate about supporting young people to feel confident and capable in managing challenges both inside and outside the classroom. When working with students, I consider their emotional and behavioural presentation as well as the broader context of their learning environment, relationships, family life, and developmental background.

Over the past few weeks, I’ve been working closely with the leadership team to develop an internal referral process that enables students to access tailored psychological support. We’re excited to begin rolling this out in collaboration with our amazing teaching staff.

I look forward to working with you all and supporting our students to thrive!
