Congratulations to all of our students and teachers for a successful term filled with Olympic celebrations, Gymnastics, Book Week, Science Week, House Athletics, Art Show, Writers Festival, Year 3/4 Camp, State School Spectacular, 100 Days of Prep, and a wide variety of incursions and excursions.
The Donvale Dads excelled with their Father's Day Breakfast, organising a delightful meal for the students and their dads to share. Thank you once again for your efforts in making this such a successful event. We are excited for the upcoming Donvale Trivia Night next term. Please secure your tickets via Trybooking before the 20th of September.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank our students for their hard work this term, as well as our fabulous teachers for providing quality teaching in a caring and supportive environment. A special acknowledgment goes out to all our Donvale families for your continued support as we partner together in your child's educational journey.
Wishing you a relaxing and enjoyable school holiday. We look forward to seeing you in Term 4.
School-wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) is an evidence-based school improvement approach that creates a positive and supportive learning environment for all students. It assists schools to improve social, emotional, behavioural and academic outcomes for children and young people. SWPBS focuses on teaching and reinforcing positive behaviours while providing targeted assistance to students who may need extra support, leading to a more successful and inclusive learning community.
We have established a School Wide Positive Behaviour Support team who will drive the implementation of SWPBS over the next 3-5years. This team has engaged in training and are delivering professional development the staff at Donvale Primary School on SWPBS. The SWPBS team will also engage with students, families, and community members to co-create culturally responsive practices and share ways we can all work together to improve outcomes for our students.
One of the key learnings from our recent professional development sessions was that we needed to have clear rules and expectations of behaviour. "We cannot assume that children and young people have the skills to demonstrate appropriate behaviour. We need to teach, re-teach, correct and provide opportunities to practice and reinforce with explicit feedback". To help our students know what behaviours are appropriate, each fortnight we will be focussing on a "Behaviour of the Week".
Our first focus, as a whole school, has been on the value of Responsibility - We keep our bags zipped. We keep our bag areas neat and rubbish-free. It has been so pleasing to see how quickly our students are demonstrating this behaviour in keeping our corridors neat and tidy!
Please be on the look out in Snippets and Compass for our "Behaviour of the Week" and discuss what this means with your child.
Uniting Care is once again offering a range of parenting programs for our families - Tuning Into Kids and Circle of Security. Please scan the QR codes to enrol.
We look forward to welcoming our students back on Monday 7th October, for our final term of 2024.
