Understanding the new Victorian Teaching and Learning Model 2.0
As parents/carers, staying informed about the direction of state education is a helpful way to support your child’s learning journey. In 2025, government schools will be introducing the Victorian Teaching and Learning Model (VTLM) 2.0. This model focuses on fostering student engagement, personalisation and collaboration to ensure each child can thrive at school.
What is the VTLM 2.0?
This model is different to previous models because it takes into consideration the ‘elements of learning,’ or what some might call the science of learning.
The model (see below) identifies 4 elements of learning:
- Attention, focus and regulation
- Knowledge and memory
- Retention and recall
- Mastery and application
We will be sending more information about this model out over the next term or so, but more importantly, this model will help us determine the professional learning direction for our teachers to ensure we can continue to provide an outstanding educational program at our college.
Instrumental Music Program 2025
One of the highlights of Lyndale Secondary College is our exceptional instrumental music program. We pride ourselves on having one of the biggest programs in the area and are always looking at ways to improve and grow this program.
Our instrumental music program aims to extend and enrich students’ musical experiences and should be encouraged and supported. Many studies show that learning an instrument at school has a range of benefits deemed critical for today’s students. This includes fostering creativity, offering unique ways of understanding and interpreting the world, and promoting numerous forms of school engagement. Participating in a music program is also linked to a number of wellbeing benefits, such as increased inclusion and connectedness at school, as well as cultivating diversity and intercultural understanding.
Very shortly information will be provided to our current students about continuing or picking up an instrument as part of the musical program at Lyndale Secondary College (this includes voice lessons). We urge parents, carers and students to really consider if this is an option worth taking. Our instrumental students:
- Receive lessons in small groups with highly trained musical experts
- Participate in a variety of performance in and outside of school
- Become part of a musical ensemble/band
- Are encouraged to attend a three-day music camp
- Participate in excursions, such as seeing the MSO perform.
Expanding our STEM Program in 2025
Another exciting opportunity for students at Lyndale is to study one of our STEM focused subjects. We are investing a lot of time and money into ensuring we can provide new and exciting resources for students that are learning Systems Engineering or participating in the Year 9 STEM elective. This includes purchasing new drones and VEX robotics and recruiting some highly skilled technology teachers. Stay tuned for more information to come.
