A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
The Class of 2024
Earlier this term, we reflected on the six-year journey of our Year 12 students, culminating in a memorable farewell assembly. One of the highlights was gathering for morning tea, where students and staff shared stories and laughter. Seeing how far you’ve come takes me back to your first days at Lyndale as Year 7s—your oversized uniforms and backpacks full to the brim with textbooks, ready to take on the world.
Over the years, you’ve grown into admirable, resilient young people—each of you prepared to embrace whatever challenges and opportunities come your way. It has been truly heartening to witness you approach this final chapter with such joy and enthusiasm. As you step into the next stage of your journey, I am confident that you are ready for whatever comes next. You will always be a part of us.
Please read on for my toast to the Class of 2024
Good morning families, staff, Years 7-11 students, and most importantly, our graduating Year 12s—the Class of 2024.
Year 12s, I personally greeted many of you as freshly faced Year 7 students in 2019, and I’ve watched you grow into resilient, wonderful young people. Because of that, I am immensely proud of each of you. Please see below for my thoughts/synopsis farewell of this great group of young people as they embark their new journey:
This week, we have reflected on the six-year journey of our Year 12 students, culminating with this morning’s highlight after our assembly—the chance to share morning tea, swapping stories and laughter with students and teachers. Seeing how far you’ve come reminds me of when you first entered our gates as Year 7s—your uniforms a little too big, and backpacks stuffed with every textbook imaginable.
It has been wonderful to see you embrace this final chapter with fun and memorable activities. But now, you stand on the precipice of a new and exciting journey.
For some of you, your exams begin with the English Exam on the 29 October. We know how much effort and dedication you’ve put in to reach this moment, and we are here to support you every step of the way. Remember, “Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day in and day out” (Robert Collier). Good luck to each of you!
Whilst for others, today also marks the completion of all your final projects and assessments. Your pathways have been just as rigorous and rewarding, filled with practical experiences that have prepared you for the world beyond these walls. You have shown us that learning takes many forms, and that true success is found in determination and the pursuit of your passion. “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams” (Eleanor Roosevelt).
The role of a school is to provide students with a safe haven, where you are supported through challenges and mistakes, and where those experiences help you grow. Was the journey over the last six years easy? Of course not. But from challenges come stories of resilience, adaptability, persistence, and growth. These qualities are the hallmarks of your class, demonstrated not only in how you’ve applied yourselves to your studies, but also in how you’ve lived out our core values—respect, resilience, and responsibility.
Respect—You have consistently shown respect to each other, your teachers, and the school community. This respect is what has allowed you to work together and to thrive as a cohort.
Resilience—You’ve faced many challenges, from remote learning during a pandemic to the personal trials each of you has overcome, and you’ve emerged stronger for it.
Responsibility—You have taken charge of your own learning and contributed positively to the College, setting a shining example for younger students. These values have shaped you into the remarkable individuals you are today, and I have no doubt they will continue to guide you in whatever path you choose.
Today, I pay tribute to each one of you. The achievements of this class have been remarkable. We have among you incredible musicians, talented artists, skilled athletes, and outstanding scholars. But my pride in the Class of 2024 doesn’t just stem from those achievements—it comes from the values you’ve demonstrated in your decisions to participate in the life of the College. And as your school, we have high aspirations and dreams for each and every one of you, knowing that you are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and values to pursue and achieve them.
Throughout their journey, the Class of 2024 has remained dedicated and resilient, contributing greatly to the quality of life at the College. This is especially true of our College Captains, Larissa, Charavi, Nathaniel, and Milica.
To each of our graduates, thank you for your work and support of the College community over the years. It has been greatly appreciated.
I also want to take a moment to acknowledge the role of our staff. Education is not something that happens in isolation. On behalf of the students and parents, I’d like to thank the teachers and staff at the College for their dedication to shaping these young people into the individuals they are today.
To the parents and families of our graduates, congratulations on this achievement. As a parent myself, I understand the challenges of guiding your child through secondary school, and I’m sure there were bumps along the way. But today is a day of celebration, and you should be incredibly proud.
Year 12s, we are so proud of your achievements and contributions over the last six years. Every one of you leaves a legacy that will be remembered. You’ve worked exceptionally hard, and you’re almost at the finish line. Stay focused—don’t let distractions steer you off course.
Remember, the results you receive at the end of the year don’t define or limit you.
As Dr. Seuss—one of my personal favourite authors for his ability to inspire and allow young minds to dream—once said, “You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose.”
I personally wish you every success and will follow your journeys with great interest. Surround yourself with good friends, stay close to your family, and always maintain your self-respect.
Be resilient, respectful, and responsible—our values will continue to serve you well. Dream big, take on challenges that seem unachievable, and you will succeed.
My advice to you: Dream boldly, act with integrity, and never stop learning.
Congratulations, Class of 2024. Today is your day—you’re off to great places, you’re off and away!
