Principal's Report

Dear Rockhampton North Special School Community,

Hello everyone,

As we wrap up Term 3, I’d like to thank you all for your continued support and involvement in making our school such a wonderful place to learn and grow. We have a lot to celebrate this month!

Last Friday, we had a magical evening celebrating our graduating Year 12 students—Jacquarn, Dylan, Aaron, Stacey, and Ryan. They looked absolutely stunning, and their speeches were heartfelt and inspiring. It was an emotional evening, and we couldn’t be prouder of the young adults they’ve become. Congratulations to our graduates and their families!

We’re also asking families to please make sure swimming payments of $50 are settled as soon as possible. We need to finalise numbers and organise the classes, so it’s important we have everything sorted. If you need assistance with payments, please don’t hesitate to contact the office.

With Term 4 just around the corner, it’s time to remind everyone about being Sunsmart. Hats, sunscreen, and hydration are key as the weather warms up. Let’s keep our students safe and healthy as they enjoy outdoor activities.

Our school is proudly a High Performance Team school, and I’m excited to share that our whole-school wellbeing results have increased by 6%, bringing us up to 75%! Staff wellbeing is essential for creating a positive environment, and this is something we all support and encourage. Our colleagues and families play a vital role in ensuring we all feel valued, connected, and supported. Let’s keep checking in with each other and lifting one another up.

Speaking of checking in, tomorrow we celebrate RUOK? Day. It’s a great reminder to reach out and ask someone how they’re doing. A simple conversation can make a world of difference, so let’s take time to ensure we’re all OK, not just tomorrow, but every day.

This term, 32 staff members have stepped up (literally!) to take part in STEPtember. Most staff have already clocked over 100,000 steps, which is an incredible achievement! Thank you to everyone for your big efforts—keep stepping!

Our Stephanie Alexander garden is in full swing, and our students and staff are working hard to grow produce for our Water Lily Café. This café provides rich learning experiences for our senior students, giving them real-world work experience making lunches and drinks. Please place your orders through Qkr, and if you need any help with this, our office staff are more than happy to assist.

Enjoy the holiday break and the beautiful spring sunshine!

Warm regards,

Dehlia Dawson
