English
Term Four looks a little bit different for Year One students as they are now nearing the completion of the InitiaLit 1 Program. They have been revising all spelling strategies taught in class this year and how it can improve our writing. We are about to begin our Cumulative Review for InitiaLit which shows what knowledge our students have learnt over the year. In Writing the Year One students have been focused on capital letters and full stops in their sentences. Also, we have been looking to edit writing that may have mistakes
Mathematics
This term so far we have been learning about Area, Perimeter and Multiplication. The students have been doing well in these areas. This includes a couple of portfolio tasks on measuring their shoe area and perimeter. Also, a multiplication task to check their knowledge! Both 1A and 1B have been proud of their work within the classroom. Moving forward the Year One students will be looking into Division and Fractions. For student's to continue their growth at home practice of splitting collections into different groups would be beneficial. For example: having 20 marbles and sharing them equally into 4 groups.
Grandparents and Special Visitors Day
On Monday the 28th of October we had our Grandparents and Special Visitors at school! Thank-you all for such a great afternoon and the Year One team hope you had a blast!
Tricky Words
Through the InitiaLit program a range of Tricky Words are taught. These words are referred to as Tricky Words as they cannot be spelled by sounding them out. Due to the nature of the program, the sets of Tricky Words get taught in groups of three and are taught during any given lesson.
You can assist your child at home in many ways. For example try: sky writing the tricky words, writing them on paper or putting them in a highly visible area, such as the fridge and spell them aloud repeatedly. Below are Term 4's tricky words.
Take Home Readers
Each week, your child is provided with the opportunity to change their hard copy reader to read for the week. We ask that the book is read 3-4 times per week and is logged into your child’s reading diary.
Your child’s reading diary and book needs to be brought to school every Friday morning to be checked by your child’s classroom teacher. We kindly ask that all books are taken care of and returned in good condition every Friday in 1B and Wednesday in 1A.
Students have taken home their MultiLit eLibrary passwords so they can choose to supplement their take home reader some nights of the week.
