Catholic Mission - Socktober

Catholic Mission is the Pope’s international Mission agency in Australia. An international organisation that partners with communities, helping them to flourish by supporting grassroots projects, including healthcare, education, and spiritual care.

Socktober is a journey towards and celebration of World Mission Month. Socktober is an exciting way to raise awareness and make a real impact on global issues. HTS will be supporting Catholic Mission throughout the month of October with a focus day on Thursday 31 October for Crazy Sock Day. We will also be holding our Coin Drop where children are asked to donate coins to raise money for Catholic Mission.

This year, HTS and Catholic Mission Australia are raising awareness and funds for the Caring Center in Mongolia. The Caring Center provides a home for Otgonbayar and his friends who have nowhere else to call home.

The Holy Rosary

October is a special month in the Church because it is the month of the Holy Rosary. During this time, we are encouraged to pray the Rosary more often. The Holy Rosary is a special prayer that helps us remember important moments in the lives of Jesus and Mary. When we pray the Rosary, we use a string of beads to guide our prayers. The beads help us keep track of the prayers we say, like the Our Father, the Hail Mary, and the Glory Be.

The Rosary has different parts called mysteries that help us think about different events in the life of Jesus and Mary. These mysteries are divided into four sets:

The Joyful Mysteries tell us about the happy times, like when the Angel Gabriel told Mary she would be the mother of Jesus.

The Luminous Mysteries show us the important events in Jesus’ teaching, like when He was baptized and began His mission.

The Sorrowful Mysteries remind us of the sad moments, like when Jesus suffered and died on the cross for us.

The Glorious Mysteries celebrate the wonderful events, like Jesus rising from the dead and Mary being taken up to heaven.

When we pray the Rosary, we are asking Mary, Jesus' mother, to pray for us and help us be closer to her Son. Mary always points us to Jesus, and she wants us to love Him and follow His ways.
