JUNIOR School

Dear Parents/Carers and Students

It certainly has been an eventful term for our Junior School students! The school is a hub of activity every day with the learning and teaching that occurs across each of our subject areas, enriched by students’ experiences outside the classroom. Some Term 3 highlights include:

  • Our Year 7 students participated in Reach workshops focused on connection and respect within the context of starting high school.
  • Focus groups ran to capture students’ thoughts and reflections about this year’s Attitudes to School Survey data. We were so impressed with the insights and ideas that these generated and will be sure to act on some of the data to continue to improve students’ experiences at school.
  • After learning about the Middle School program, our Year 8 students submitted their elective preferences for 2025 as they began thinking about the transition to Year 9.
  • Many of our Junior School students were involved on-stage or behind-the-scenes in this year’s brilliant production of Grease. Well done to Layla, Willow, Luisa, Maja, Evie, Maddie, Charleigh, Lucy, Zoe, Cali, Ky, Poppy, Yasmina, Jack, Cassara, Ella, Claire, Eleanor, Ariel, Edward, Emma, Tamar, Savannah, Jasmine, Zoe and Aya, as well as Pako for taking on the lead role of Doody in both cast in his very first year at Frankston High School!
  • Our Year 7 students welcomed visitors from Kurnai College as well as alumnus Matisse Knight for an engaging assembly acknowledging NAIDOC Week
  • Some of our Junior School students hosted students from Kawaguchi Kita High School as part of a cultural exchange experience that they will remember for many years to come!
  • Students participated in an array of activities to celebrate Maths, Science and Book Week, including engaging with challenges as part of the annual World of Maths incursion, taking part in the Australian Maths Competition, tackling science quizzes, hearing from professional author George Ivanoff and challenging themselves with a scavenger hunt put together by our wonderful Junior Resource Centre team.
  • Year 8 students took part in the always-popular History incursion, immersing themselves in the world of Medieval Europe to learn about daily life and warfare.
  • Our Training Band had their debut performance at the Winter Concert with many of our Year 8 students also contributing to the brilliant Small Groups Concert as part of the Junior Stage and Concert Bands and other ensembles.
  • Our Parent Student Teacher Conferences (PSTC) were held following the publication of Term 3 Progress Reports, providing an opportunity for reflection and goal setting.
  • The Year 7 team ran a range of competitions to coincide with last week’s Footy Day such as lolly-guessing, long kick and best-dressed competitions.
  • Our Year 7 and 8 Year Level Captains continued to collaborate with other student leaders to drive improvement initiatives and advocate for their peers whilst developing their own capacity for leadership.

The year so far has flown by and we hope students come back refreshed and recharged after the Spring holiday break for an exciting and equally-busy Term 4!
