Reusable Period Underwear Pilot

Free period underwear can be ordered until Friday 11 October.

Dear parents/carers

Our school will shortly be participating in an 8-week trial during which the Department of Education (the department) provides free period underwear to students.

The trial is designed to help the department understand the benefits of providing free period underwear to students, and aims to:

  • relieve students of the stigma, anxiety and discomfort that can be associated with menstruation and its management.
  • ease the cost of living for families.

Using period underwear provided at the school is optional. Students can choose whether they would like to order the period underwear. Period underwear will be available in a range of sizes.

Menstruating students will be given the opportunity to get up to 5 period underwear for free.

What is period underwear?

Period underwear are reusable underwear that absorb period blood, replacing the need for a tampon or pad for many people.

The period underwear being supplied to students can hold up to 2-3 tampons worth of period blood and are designed for moderate-heavy flow.

Period underwear can be washed and reused. For more information about how to use and wash period underwear, see: How To Wash Period Undies – Your Complete Guide.

How can my child get free period underwear through the trial?

To get free period underwear, students or families must order online. Students will be able to collect a flyer that provides a link and a code to enter at checkout which will allow them to get up to 5 free period underwear and free shipping. Students or families can provide a convenient address within Victoria for shipping when they make the online order. Students can also be supported to order while at school if required.

Student can collect the flyer from Monday 7 October at the 7-10 Campus Office, Student Enquiries window.

Free period underwear can be ordered until Friday 11 October.

R U Ok?

Having had a very successful R U Ok Day at Frankston High School, we would like to remind the school community that we need to be vigilant around mental health and looking out for one another.

Support is available.  Students may self-refer to the wellbeing team if they need a chat, alternatively here are a few other options for external support.

If you notice that your mates are pending a lot of their time on social media or gaming, and as a result they are not getting enough sleep or losing touch with their hobbies and friends, this may be a sign they might be doing it tough.  The right conversation can help them through. You don’t need to be a clinician, a GP, or a nurse to check-in with someone you are worried about.

It is ok to let someone know you have noticed they are struggling.
