NETBALL News
The Friday Night Season is complete!
Two Grand Finals and Two Premierships!
A huge congratulations to all the players who came through the coldest winter in 50 years. We ended the season with five teams reaching semi-finals, in both 7/8 and Seniors Divisions 1 and 2:
- Our Senior Div 1 team ‘Jets’ all Year 10 students, played against a mixed Flinders 10-12s and lost their semi by an agonising point.
- All Year 7 ‘Redbacks’ went down to a good Year7/8 team from Woodleigh.
- 'Thunder' played an amazing game against our own ‘Pythons,’ who then went on to get past Flinders in a successful Grand Final! (Flinders had a good season too, and we are developing an excellent rivalry.)
- Year 9 Team ‘Sharks,’ won a tough semi against a mixed Year 9 -12 Flinders, and then went on to get past Toorak to also win their Premiership.
Thanks so much to the parents who we see every week helping out, coaching and scoring: Kristy Dewhurst, Stav Smaragdiou, Jane Powell ,Lisa Vandermeer and many more.
Congratulations to all the players who come training at Semper Squad at 7.30am on Wednesday mornings, and who were there every Friday night to have a great time playing Netball whether winning or not.
Here is a photo of three of our most improved players this season, Lily Watts, Mia Fanning and Katherine Ashton-Bradley. They have worked really hard all year to develop their skills, and we are seeing it on the court. Our student coaches too have been amazing, and you will see them featured in the Yearbook.
Term 4 Spring Competition
The Term 4 Spring Competition begins on Friday 17 October, and we would like to lock in the teams by Saturday 12 October the latest. For this season, we would like to invite you to make your own teams either mixed (only three boys allowed on court at any one time, and in different thirds) or not, in a squad of 8 or 9 – 7/8 Divs 1 or 2, or Seniors, Div 1 or 2. Please get your teams to me by Thursday 10 October. We hope that everyone who has played over the last years will enter; it will be a relatively short season with a two round final series.
Our annual Pizza Lunch will be provided by the Hands-On Crew in the week before the finals.
Look forward to seeing you all on the court!
