Term 3 Author Visit | George Ivanoff
On Monday 9 September, as part of our annual ‘Authors @ FHS’ event, the JRC welcomed George Ivanoff to school.
George is a Melbourne author who has written more than 100 books for kids and teens, including Monster Island, the interactive You Choose series, the RFDS Adventures, the OTHER WORLDS series, the Gamers trilogy, and the non-fiction Survival Guides; as well as a ton of school readers and educational books. George’s books and stories have been shortlisted for numerous awards and he’s even won a few of them.
George entertained Years 7 and 8 with readings from some of his books and talked about his writing process, followed by a very popular autograph and photo session with enthusiastic students.
Author George Ivanoff shared some great skills which helped me have a better understanding on how to write my own narrative or novel. He shared the steps of creating a world and using 'what if', to extend the novel and make it interesting and easier to write. His bubbly and enthusiastic personality made the presentation truly interesting, as most Year 8 students are going into writing a narrative about a protagonist and antagonist. This session really help us understand how to plan our writing and steps we can follow to edit our narrative, which he explained can change your book completely even changing chapters. Big thanks to George! Harvey Murton 8F
Author George Ivanoff visited our school and talked about how he developed his writing skills and how writing helped him through his life and how he pulls ideas from his own life, like when he got bit by more than 200 mosquitos and added it into his book. He was kind, respectful and talked to the crowd with energy and excitement. He also started writing 'You Choose' Adventure books, which he used to love, where you can choose your path in a book. He showed how he ends up writing his books because he can’t just go with the flow. In every one of his books, he writes a structure for even more than one for the book and he follows a strict path but sometimes adds some creative ideas off scratch. Artie Bright-Foster 8F
