JAPANESE Speech Contest
The Frankston Susono Friendship Association (FSFA) Japanese Speech Contest 2024 was held at Monash University Peninsula Campus at 7.00pm on Friday 6 September. There were over 50 students participating in this contest this year from three primary schools and four secondary schools in the Frankston region. In 1993 FSFA started holding this speech contest and has continued almost every year.
There were 13 contestants from Frankston High School and we would like to announce our prize winners:
- Katokakala Lino (Year 12) came 2nd Place in Senior Division (Title: Nausicaa and Deforestation)
- Flynn Richards (Year 12) came 3rd Place in Senior Division (Title: Ecology House in Japan)
- Riku Kanegawa (Year 11) came 1st Place in Environment Division
- Kohane Tojima (Year 11) came 2nd Place in Environment Division
We had nine more contestants who prepared for his 4-minute long speech about “Woven City in Japan” recited his speech confidently. Even though they did not win a prize, they should also be congratulated on their effort:
- Enrica Lam, Cassara De Silva Samuel, Mae Fanning (Year 7)
- Izel Briones, Alannah Ireland, Lilly O’Donell (Year 8)
- Mele’ana Lino (Year 9)
- Angus Perry (Year 10) who did very well memorizing a long speech about “The Rolling Rice Ball”
- Kess Wilton (Year 12)
We would like to thank Ms Tonia Hast for giving up her lunch time on Tuesdays to prepare for students’ speech this term and organizing a wonderful gift for each student. Also thank you to Ms Chika Oshida, our Japanese assistant, for recording her voice for students to listen to and helping them to practice their speeches at lunch time.
