Sports Day 2024
AIM HIGH
In Week 9 on Friday, we had Sports Day. It was a day full of fun. We started off the day by taking part in the opening ceremony where we heard some fantastic singing from the choir and then followed the spectacular event with all classes and their buddies walking around the oval displaying some awesome flags and banners. We then heard the inspirational quotes from our captains, sang our team chants as loud as we could and then got into the health hustle, which got us all warmed up for the big day, and ready for our events.
After this, we went into our first and second tabloid events which took us up to Recess. During recess, there was a bake sale and a Doughnut truck available for anyone to purchase goodies from. Everything tasted supreme!
When recess was over we had the relay. It was great to see all students from each year level work together, collaborating in the event. This was followed by four tabloid events for all classes. For Fisher, we had games like long jump, coloured soccer, javelin, European handball and sprints. For Torrens, there were sprints, frisbee, long throw, long jump, foam javelin, colour soccer and European handball. Mellor had a dribbling relay, Olympic accuracy throw, foam javelin, Olympic torch relay swimming dress-up relay as well as knocking them down. Rowell had lots of fun doing activities with egg and spoon race, Olympic accuracy throw, foam javelin, knock them down, swimming dress up relay and Olympic torch relay games.
Throughout the whole day, there was a leader's board which was regularly updated after every event. Everyone was crowding around the board to see who was winning. Lunchtime arrived and lots of people were getting tasty sausages, burgers, drinks and ice blocks that were delicious - shout out to the Governing Council for doing a great job. After lunch, all students had to meet at their designated coloured tent, every colour was cheering very loudly for their team. This is when we started the championship sprints and we also had a parent and past seniors sprint which was super fun to watch. This was followed by the famous tug-of-war between the senior students, parents and staff.
Even though there was some rain throughout the day that stopped us from participating in some events, we were able to show our school learner qualities of resilience and collaboration.
It was then time for the final results to be revealed. Mrs Mirjana announced that Grallina had won, they had done it and gained the victory for 2024. Runner-up placements included; Brian 2nd, Malurus 3rd and Pierson 4th, all teams going up on the podium to collect their medals. All teams did their best, and all their efforts and perseverance made this Sports Day one to remember. Grallina got to sing their chant once again after they found out they had won and had a nail-biting day.
Quote: You’ll never know what you are capable of until you take that first step and just go for it.
Victory Speech
Hi my name is Vassi and here with me are Isaac, Nicholas and Genie and we are the captains of Grallina. We would like to thank all of the teams who participated today. You all did an amazing job by trying your best and not giving up. From what we could see you all showed the LNPS school values and Learner qualities.
We would also like to thank all the teachers, Captains, Parents and the Sports day Committee for making today possible. And of course, we need to give a special mention to Mr Smith and Mrs Byrnes because they are the ones that really made today fun and possible. Now, let's talk about our team Grallina. What an amazing win today. You all did a fantastic job.
You have all been amazing by showing great sportsmanship and persistence throughout the day. It has been an honour for us to be your leaders for the 2024 olympic sports day and we thank you for your support throughout the whole day. You have really helped us win this sports day and at the end of the day, everybody has tried their best and that’s all that matters.
You’re not always going to come first in life but losing makes you better and stronger. Thank you for everybody going above and beyond and making this day possible. Continue aiming high in 2025 for another back-to-back victory. Now we would love you all to show the school's values by leaving with no rubbish on the floor. And don’t forget to sign out with your teacher before leaving.
GO GRALLINA!!
