School Council
The last day of Term Three is here and we are all so excited to have made it through another brilliant term. So much has happened and we can’t wait to get into the holiday vibe.
Our School Council met on Monday evening just past with a full agenda to run through. We are thrilled to be bringing you so many positive and engaging updates. From the House Team Shirts Launch, works happening on the school grounds to exciting upcoming events and future works in the making.
House Team Shirts Official Launch
The ENPS House Team Shirts Launch, by far, was the most anticipated event of Term Three. These wonderful shirts were made available to the community at PSW, with a moving and connected Smoking Ceremony to make it official. The day will go down in history as the school’s official day of the new PE uniform launch with such a rich and engaging story behind the making of all four tops.
Thank you to all the parents, carers, teachers and VIPs that made it to the official launch, you are all a part of history in the making. So much hard work and thought has gone into the creation of these shirts, and there’s still more amazing things to come with them. With the use of digital technology, the illustrations on the shirts will come to life in real-time and animate with augmented reality. This is a truly amazing journey to be a part of.
ENPS School Uniform is Environmentally Friendly
In reflection of our House Team Shirts Launch and our whole school uniform; another brilliant and noteworthy element to add to this is the environmental factor. Did you know that the ENPS school uniform tops, including the new house team shirts and some of the other uniform items are environmentally friendly! They were once plastic bottles. You may have even noticed it written on the tags when purchasing them. If you needed another thing to be proud of with our uniform, it’s that PSW, our official school uniform supplier, provides us with sustainable school wear. When students proudly wear the uniform, including the new house team shirt, know that it has made a difference to the environment and the sustainability of our future. Wear it loud and proud!
McCulloch Street School Crossing
Have you noticed how wonderful the McCulloch Street school crossing looks lately? Moonee Valley City Council have actioned our repair requests and the crossing is now looking better than ever. New poles have been installed and freshly painted with red and white stripes, road markings have been repainted at the crossing section, road barriers have been fixed and the kiss and drop off zone has been resurfaced. We have some photos below of how great it looks, and some previous photos that our Year Three students took to compare with.
Congratulations to our Year Three students in 3JR, 3KO, 3LD and 3SM for stepping up and taking action to keeping our community safe. The photographic evidence and handwritten letters from our Year Three students went directly to MVCC and assisted our parent School Council member, Mahmoud Amirgholi, in communicating to the council. They made it happen! What a great way to end off the term and a massive round of applause goes to the whole Year Three cohort for their bold actions.
If you don’t often walk on this side of the school, head on over and check it out when we return to school. You’ll be able to say g’day to Gordon (one of our beloved crossing supervisors) and venture through the inclusive play space as you walk into the school.
Learning Environments
There’s a lot going on around the planning, upgrading and maintenance of our learning environments and continuous improvement policies. These types of works are reflective of our commitment to continually engage students and provide a safe and inclusive space for the whole community.
Apple Tree Walkway
The Apple Tree Walkway is a project that School Council are proud to be a part of with brilliant collaboration happening and excellent ideas coming forward. The wording on the wall mural artwork has been updated to reflect the school values of Safe, Kind and Respectful. Measurements have been taken and paint swatches have been chosen to reflect our house team colours and school brand. Communication is now happening around the donation and supply of the paint and resources to make this school-wide project a reality.
Waiting Space (outside 2TW)
Another exciting learning environments project in the works is the waiting area outside 2TW (on the girl’s side of the new toilets). This space has so much potential, and some wonderful ideas have surfaced of adding planter boxes and growing a beautiful vine up the existing pole and across the top as a lovely green wall. Plus, adding some more artwork on the outside walls of the toilet. This will be on the agenda for out next meeting as the warmer weather will now be in our favour. This is one to keep an eye on.
Gillies Street Entrance, Inclusive Play Space Garden Beds, Digging Pit and McCulloch Street Entrance Garden Bed
These projects are carefully considered, with communication and investigations currently in the works. They are long term visions that need a deeper understanding of how the space is used and how it can be improved. As a whole School Council, we also want to ensure that all ideas put forward are heard and any learning environments that are being upgraded are done so with genuine thought for future use, to maximise student engagement.
The Gillies Street entrance is a top priority for the school as a significant and large outdoor learning space that needs attention. As previously mentioned, a letter of request for a grant has been submitted and we are absolutely committed to making this happen. More updates on this project will come over the next few months.
Continuous School Improvement
Student Dress Code
We are happy to announce that our Student Dress Code is being updated to include the addition of our new official PE uniform. If you have any questions around this and when the house team shirt can be worn, please feel free to reach out to us at the front office or ask one of the Principals at the gate as you walk in. We are more than happy to answer any questions you have.
Unique and Individual Acknowledgement of Country
A little something you may not know. While ENPS has a School Council, a Junior School Council, a Green Team, Sub-committee Teams and so many more teams; we have discovered that quite a strong belief system goes into our whole school Acknowledgement of Country that each team use as spoken word, at the beginning of their individual meetings.
Rather than utilise the same whole school Acknowledgment of Country at each meeting, each team will create their very own and individualised Acknowledgment of Country that truly reflects that team and what that team represents. We are honoured to work, play and learn on this land and now it will be with a deeper connection with the people that come together for a unique purpose.
Policy Updates
In policy news, our ENPS Child Safety Policy and Photographing, Filming and Recording Students Policy have both been reviewed and updated this month. All current Essendon North Primary School policies can also be viewed on the Policies page of our school website.
Parent/Caregiver Survey is still open – It’s quick and easy!
Parents this is your chance to have your say. ENPS need your input to continue to make this school a great place. The parent survey is completely anonymous and allows you the chance to provide feedback with how you feel, and it’s all done online from either a computer or mobile. The process is quick and easy with multiple choice answers and spaces for you to provide your own unique answers. What is it for? The survey, offered by the Department of Education, is designed to help schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behaviour, and student engagement and we can’t get a clear understanding without your feedback. The survey was emailed out to every parent/caregiver on Monday 29th July with a link to access the survey. If you need a new link please reach out to the front office and they will happily provide a new link to you.
Movie Night - Community Engagement
Move Night is coming up and we can’t wait! This is one of our community’s favourite events at ENPS with so much fun had by all. Tickets to the event will be available in the coming weeks and preparations for the night are well underway. Can you help?
