In exciting news, our Year Two student Sophie has been selected for a solo performance in the Australian Girls Choir annual concert! After a very impressive audition last month and some fierce competition, Sophie was chosen to sing a solo part in three shows with her junior choir group at their upcoming performance at George Wood Performing Arts Centre, Yarra Valley Grammar School, Ringwood on November 10th.

We were very keen to learn more about Sophie's big audition and her love of singing - read all about it below!

How long have you been singing?

I've been singing for almost three years.

How does singing make you feel?

Very happy.

What's it like being a member of the Australian Girls Choir?

Busy but fun. I have two rehearsals per week, one with my normal junior group and one with my selective group. I always look forward to them.

Can you describe how you were feeling before you auditioned for the solo part?

A little bit nervous but mostly I was confident.

Were there lots of other people auditioning?

I'm not quite sure about other levels but there were around 15 girls in my level. We were nominated by our selective group teachers.

How did you feeling once your audition was over?

I felt tired but I knew that I made a good effort. I had a feeling that I might get it.

What's it like performing in front of big crowds?

I've sang with the girls before in front of big crowds and it felt pretty excited. I've actually never done a solo before but I guess it will be fun too.

How excited are you about the upcoming annual concert?

SUPER EXCITED TO DO A SOLO PART!!!!!

Does anyone else in your family enjoy singing?

Yes but they are mostly into Vietnamese karaoke. Oh I almost forget that my elder sister Lily is also in a higher level of AGC.

Do you play any musical instruments?

I play the piano and I do it very well.

Has anything or anyone helped you to achieve your success?

My voice has helped me to get the solo, and I am proud of it.

Do you have any future goals?

I would like to get more solo parts in the future.

Could you give any advice to other students who are keen to try out for a choir?

Yes. Sing the best you can. Even if you think it is not good, keep singing and it will be amazing.

Great advice Sophie and well done on landing your solo - big congratulations from all of us at ENPS!!
