Year Three
Indigenous Literacy Day 2024 was a meaningful and enriching experience for the Year Three students! By exploring the theme "Be A Proud Voice for Country", they engaged deeply with the cultural significance of land and community for First Nations people.
The use of the book My Country by Sally Morgan as a mentor text was a wonderful choice, as it beautifully illustrates the connections between identity and place.
In the activities that followed, students shared their special places and the reasons for their connections to them, which not only fostered a sense of pride in their own experiences, but also helped them to understand and appreciate the rich relationship that First Nations peoples have with their Country. This kind of learning promoted empathy, respect, and a deeper awareness of Indigenous cultures.
The representations of students' special places reflect their individual experiences and creativity, providing a colourful array of perspectives on sense of belonging and connectedness. These activities not only celebrated Indigenous cultures but also nurtured a sense of community among the students as they shared and learned from one another.
Below are the AMAZING creative representations of students' SPECIAL PLACES!!!
