Boarders' Buzz

It’s been a very busy fortnight in the Boarding House!
We had our very first Community Dinner where we celebrated all the outstanding achievements our boarders had accomplished over the previous fortnight.
Jermias and Jayranni Alice were named our very first ‘Boarders of the Fortnight’! Jordy Williams took out the ‘Cleanest Room’ award for Heaslip House and Jermias and Jayranni Alice also took out the ‘Cleanest Room’ award for McKechnie House! Keithan Reiff won our ‘Kindness’ award for volunteering to do the dishes after dinner!
We also celebrated our special guest Margaret Stevenson, who joined us for the Community Dinner and it was great to see her speak with those boarders in Stevenson Tribe!
We also had our second ‘Tribe Night’ where Stevenson Tribe got some payback as they won the Capture the Flag competition. Wilson Tribe still has a lead with 45 points and Stevenson Tribe has closed the gap and are on 35 points.
Our Academic Enrichment Program is seeing our boarders make some progress with their academic learning. Our Polly Farmer program is running every Monday and Wednesday afternoon alongside our evening Prep on Tuesday and Thursday’s. Jessica France took out the ‘Academic of the Fortnight’ award for her commitment and effort towards her learning.
We have lots of our McKechnie House boys involved in sport, especially as pre-season has started for local footy. We have several girls signed up to play netball in the local competition and Ronald Squire has made some fantastic improvements in his Muay Thai boxing training. Asaph Kariuki is playing soccer for Stormbirds and is pushing for an A-Grade spot as he hopes to one day play professionally!
Our ‘Wellness Wednesday’ program also kicked off last week with a session on vaping. Our boarders watched a short educational video on the impact of vaping and then we finished with a short Q and A session afterwards. We also spoke about their Wellbeing surveys which will start the following week.
There has also been lots happening in the weekends, visits to the town pool, trips to the cinema and the Dust Bowl. Games of Dodgeball and Golden Child in the sports stadium have also been a great hit with the boarders. There has been very little time to rest and relax!
Birthdays
We celebrated Tyler Blue’s 15th birthday last Sunday!
