Summer Lightning Premiership

Very proud of the lead up application of all students, especially Grade 5's in training for Volleyball and Volleystars Lightning Premiership.

The improvement in skill level over a short period was enormous. All grade 5's now have a solid skill base to really give the title a tilt next year.

Both the Boys and Grade 6 girls reached the final. The girls had to win one more set after a resumption in play but didn't quite grasp the need to focus and bring home the set. Very close though and a great effort.

The boys made the final and got off to a flying start. However, playing a team of grade 6's as opposed to a mix of 6's, 5's and 4's proved to be a mountain just a bit too high to scale.

The grade 5 volleyball girls put in the hard yards and were very competitive. They will be a force to reckoned with next year. A huge congratulations for all the improvement made.

The volleystars had a great day out and were super competitive. Volleystars is a great platform to learn volleyball so these students also have the preliminary skills to move to volleyball next year.

Thanks to Miss McClaren, Brenda and Georgia for coming along and assisting with coaching (scoring, supervising etc etc) on the day. Much appreciated.

Auslan (Australian Sign Language)

Over the past few weeks, our students have been making great progress in learning Auslan (Australian Sign Language), gaining valuable skills and expanding their communication abilities.

The Years 4 to 6 students have been focusing on the days of the week, mastering the signs to help them navigate daily routines and conversations. In addition to this, they've begun learning various classroom-related signs such as "uniform," "work," "laptop," and "boardgames," further enhancing their ability to communicate in the classroom environment. This practical vocabulary will help them interact more effectively with their peers and teachers.

The Year 2 and 3 students have been exploring the world of food in Auslan, learning signs for various recipes, ingredients, and types of food. They’ve also been mastering instructional signs for activities like measuring, mixing, and cooking. This practical vocabulary opens up new possibilities for communication, particularly in the context of home economics and food preparation. The students are excited to incorporate these signs into their daily lives, whether at home or in school, making their learning both relevant and fun.

Meanwhile, our Prep and Year 1 students have been diving into the vibrant world of colours in Auslan. They’ve been working hard to learn the signs for a range of colours, which has allowed them to express themselves in new and exciting ways. In addition to this, they have been collaborating with their buddies to learn the signs for the school oath, which they’ll use during assemblies. This hands-on experience with Auslan not only enhances their language skills but also fosters a sense of connection and teamwork across the school community.

It’s been a wonderful few weeks of progress in Auslan, and we’re excited to see how our students continue to develop their skills next term.
