From the Year 3 Classroom

Grade 3 begin their very first NAPLAN testing this week.

Tests include- writing, reading, spelling and grammar and mathematics.

Our Grade 3 motto is ‘Our best is good enough!’ and we have no doubt they will all do an amazing job!

If possible, it would be appreciated if students could avoid appointments or missing class time especially in the morning block (9am-11am) over the next two weeks while NAPLAN is on. This saves students having to catch up in other learning time. Thank you!

During our Literacy block, we are getting close to the end of our novel ‘Matilda’ with only a few chapters to go. The students continue to be entertained with Roald Dahl’s clever use of vocabulary and sentence structure with which we have been experimenting in our own narrative writing.

In Mathematics, number and place value continues to be a focus, working with numerals up to 5 digits. We are also exploring time this fortnight, including time elapsed and reading basic times on both analogue and digital clocks. We encourage all families to question their child, prompting them to read the time on clocks you have at home.

In Inquiry we have been learning about various types of health, and this fortnight we have focussed on physical health and hygiene health. Students are creating posters to present and display on various ways we can be healthy.

In Religious Education we have been focusing on the beginning of the season of Lent. Students were encouraged to make choices of how they could change and grow to be more like Jesus over the 40 days of Lent through Prayer, Fasting and Giving. Students also attended an Ash Wednesday Liturgy where they shared the scripture through Liquid Pictures.

Please remember, students are encouraged to read at home each night and fill in their reading diaries, which are to be returned to school each Friday.
