NAPLAN testing concluded successfully this week. Each year, students in Year 3 and Year 5 take part in these assessments, covering the subjects of Reading, Writing, Conventions of Language (Grammar, Spelling, and Punctuation), and Mathematics. We are thankful for the preparation of the Year 3 and 5 teaching teams, along with Nathan Stockton and Leasyl Richards, which ensured the smooth running of the tests. A big thank you to our students as well for their hard work and commitment throughout the testing process. The results will be available starting in Term 3.
Don't forget to return your Easter Raffle tickets to your teacher by Tuesday 1st April.
Parent/Teacher Interview times are now available on Compass, and I encourage all families to book a time. These interviews provide a valuable opportunity to discuss your child’s progress so far this year, as well as identify areas and goals for future learning in Term 2. The interviews will be held onsite at the school, giving you the chance to meet with your child’s teacher in person and explore their classroom and learning spaces. We look forward to seeing you there!
To celebrate and promote our new house names, we will be holding a House Colours Day on Thursday, 27th March. On this day, students are encouraged to wear their house colour. They will also have the opportunity to share lunch with other members of their house from different year levels, fostering house spirit and connections. Below is a reminder of our new house names and colours.
Harmony Day is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate and highlight the cultural diversity at WHPS. This year, we will celebrate Harmony Day on the second last day of Term 1, Thursday, April 3rd, with a special Assembly at 9:10 am on the oval.
Students are encouraged to wear cultural clothing (either traditional or modern) or dress in orange to mark the occasion. They are also welcome to bring their own cultural food for lunch and share details about their food with their class. Please note that there will be no sharing of food.
We would love for you to join us in celebrating! We especially invite you to wear your cultural clothing and celebrate alongside your child/children.
We will be conducting the Annual General Meeting and March Meeting of School Council on Monday 31st March @ 7pm. At this meeting the 2024 annual report will be presented. Parent members for the 2025 School Council are Meng Leong, Michael Wos, Eehui Lim, Tina Samardzija, Fred Lu, Coral Xiao, Joanne Yong and Suchet Singh Virk. Dept. of Education representatives: Michael Ramsey, Katrina Spicer and Leasyl Richards. Community member is Morteza Taherian.
Next Friday, March 28th, is a curriculum day, and students are not required to be at school. On this day, teachers will be planning lessons and units of work for Term 2. Please note that Term 1 will conclude on Friday, April 4th, at 2:30 pm, with an earlier finishing time. We will return to school for Term 2 on Tuesday, April 22nd. It’s also worth mentioning that the first week of Term 2 will be shorter, with both Monday and Friday being public holidays.
