Head of Primary Years' Report

Dear Parents, Carers and Friends of Hazel Glen College,

We are proud of our camping program here at Hazel Glen College and this year we look forward to each of our year levels having a special event that promotes building independence, resilience and teamwork skills for our students. More information regarding the events will be published on Compass closer to events.

  • Prep - Prep Breakfast, Wednesday 15th October - This event will be celebrated with a whole College Pyjama Day
  • Year 1- Disco, Term 4, Week 8
  • Year 2 - Day Camp, Activities Day, Term 4
  • Year 3 - Urban Camp and Zoo, 10th to 11th of November - This camp has limited places. Families will have the chance to secure their place once the event is published on Compass. If there are students who miss out on a place, they will be added to a waitlist.
  • Year 4 - Lady Northcote Camp Bacchus Marsh Adventure Camp, 28th to 30th of July
  • Year 5 - Sovereign Hill Camp, 4th to 5th of August
  • Year 6 - Phillip Island Adventure Camp, 8th to 10th of September

These events require lots of preparation beforehand to make them run smoothly. Thank you to the staff for all the additional work that you are putting into the camping program to make it such an engaging experience for our students.

Our Year 5 Intraschool Sport each Wednesday creates a buzz throughout the school. Year 5 students compete in teams to earn house points and it is great to see the splash of colour throughout the school each week with participating students wearing their house tops. Thank you to Mr Ashley Mai who has joined the Hazel Glen College Physical Education team this year for his work in providing fun opportunities for our students. We are enjoying the sporting opportunities that our students are having this year also with the addition of interschool sport for our Year 6 students. We are lucky to have such a wealth of knowledge and experience with our Primary Years Physical Education Team of Mr Silipo and Mr Mai.

Our Year 1 students participated in their community excursion this week with the Year 9 and 10 students, where they had the opportunity to experience Visual Arts and Technology with our wonderful secondary years students. I am always proud of the connections that we have across our College, being a Kindergarten to Year 12 College community.

Miss Morgan has been busy working with staff and student leaders across the College to to celebrate Harmony Day today, Friday the 21st of March by encouraging students to wear a splash of orange or cultural dress as well as to recognise World Down Syndrome Day by wearing odd socks. Our students participated in a Harmony/Cultural walk, visiting classrooms across the College.

Miss Frangos has organised an Easter Raffle and the baskets look amazing. Fingers crossed that you may be a lucky family to take home one of the prizes. All students will receive a free entry ticket for the raffle. The Easter baskets are on display at the Primary Years Office. We hope that everyone is busy getting their Easter bonnets ready for our annual Easter Parade that will take place on the last day of school at the start of the day. We look forward to another exciting community event with families invited to join us.

Remember to remind any families that you know who are looking for a school for their Prep child in 2026 to contact our school office to join one of our tours or Ready Prep Go sessions. If you are a parent of a Year 6 student this year, please take time to attend a tour or reach out if you have any questions about our Secondary Years program for your child starting Year 7 next year. We have great transition programs in place for our students to transition to their Secondary Years of schooling within our College and many exciting opportunities awaiting our students for next year.
