Year Four - Spotlight on Learning

Jericho Community

Dear Families,

We are well into our swimming program, having completed week one. The children's skills are improving. The children are to be congratulated as the swimming instructors commented on their great behaviour and listening.

This week we also participated in an incursion called Indigenous Dance and Drama. Again students were respectful and interested in such a beautiful culture.

It was great to see many wearing a touch of orange to celebrate Harmony Day. We are all different but we can be great together and use kind words and actions.

Next week we are learning about...

Religious Education Focus

Next week we will be learning about the events of Holy Week and making the connection with belonging to a community.

English Focus

We will continue to read 'Leo and Ralph' by Peter Carnavas. This means we will begin writing narratives. We will discuss and create characters and settings.

Mathematics Focus

Students will work on multiplication and division strategies. We will continue to focus on the multiplication and division facts for 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10.

Integrated Studies

Students will be exploring the importance of Country and Place to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples. The contributions of different groups to their community, the symbols, commemorations and events that underpin Australian diversity and identity.

Social/ Emotional Learning & RRRR

Students will be looking into using strengths to show respect, what respect means, how we can show respect to others and the importance of respect.

Auslan Focus

Students will identify meaningful changes in the handshape, location and movement of the sign ‘5’. We will learn signs like: excuse me,  Can I have a drink? Lord, hear our prayer.
