This Week’s Gospel Challenge

The Gospel at Mass on the weekend focused on what is known as ‘The Golden Rule’ - Loving your enemies. Jesus tells us that when our enemies mistreat us, we need to love them anyway. This can be a very challenging task. While it is easier to be patient, kind and caring to those we love, we are challenged to think about how we can be all of those things to people whom we don’t love. In today’s world, this may be as simple as letting someone go in front of us in traffic or a queue, maybe it is offering to help someone at work or smiling at someone on the street who we might otherwise ignore. We are reminded that every act of kindness is love to our neighbour. So as Catholics, we are challenged to go out and ‘Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.’

Kiss & Ride

This year, we have made some minor adjustments to our Kiss and Ride System in order to assist families in collecting their children safely and to minimise traffic congestion to neighbours and other drivers. The biggest change is using text messaging to communicate between teachers when cars arrive to collect students. To help facilitate this service we are asking for parents to:

  1. Ensure they have their Family Name on cardboard and that this is visible until your child/children have been collected. If you do not have your name on a card, please contact the office and Ms Hoad will create one for you.

  2. Communicate with your children so they know if they should be on the car line each day.

  3. Be safe and respectful! Please continue to be safe and respectful to other drivers, our own families and neighbours. We often receive phone calls from neighbours regarding congestion. While this is a reality when you live near a school, we assure our neighbours that our families are always aware and courteous when collecting their children.

NAPLAN Reminders - Week 6

NAPLAN - A reminder for any parents whose children are in Year 3 and Year 5. We are asking that students bring a pair of headphones to school this week in a ziplock bag with their name on it. Please note these headphones need to have a jack to connect to a laptop as bluetooth headphones will not be compatible with the NAPLAN tests.

Mathematics Games to Aid Learning

This week, many of the classes will have commenced working toward their personalised fluency goals in Mathematics. Fluency is the ability to quickly recall addition, subtraction, multiplication and division facts. One game that has been introduced in many of our classes is Dice Cricket! Please be sure to ask your child about this game and support classroom learning at home. This game is chance based and helpful to all. All you need is a dice!  So why not have a game at home!

Dice Cricket

Number of Players - More than 2

Winner - First Person to get to 100

Rules - Player 1 rolls a dice and adds the numbers they roll. They do this until they roll a 5. When this happens they are out and player two starts their go. Repeat this until one player reaches 100. NB If you want to work on subtraction, simply start at 100 and the winner is the first to zero.
