Each year during the Catholic Church season of Lent, Caritas Australia undertakes their major fundraising event for the year through Project Compassion. All donations raised are directed to Caritas Australia to support communities in need.
The theme for Project Compassion 2025 is Unite against poverty this Lent.
Thank you for supporting the Big Water Walk, our first Project Compassion Friday FUNdraiser. It was a wonderful experience to see and hear the students walking the internal perimeter of our school boundary. They managed to collect the information from the fact cards to participate in the Big Water Quiz when they returned to their classrooms. Ask your children to share some of the water facts with you at home.
This week the Year 3/4 classes are hosting their Friday FUNdraiser event. Participants will follow instructions to use a coloured paper square to create a Vietnamese paper flower in their classroom. Lam lives in Vietnam and he and others in his community make paper flowers to sell to raise money to support their needs.
You can read more about Lam from Vietnam and how Caritas Australia have supported his community using this link https://www.caritas.org.au/project-compassion/lam-story/
Next week the Year 1/2 classes are hosting their Friday FUNdraiser. Each class will be involved in creating a woven placemat for their classroom prayer table.
Students and staff are invited to bring one or more gold coins to put in their classroom Project Compassion Box.
Each year the Melbourne Archdiocese invite all Catholic primary and secondary schools within the archdiocese to send a group of student leaders to participate in the Mass of St Patrick for Catholic Schools. This is held to celebrate the Feast Day of St Patrick on 17 March. St Patrick is the patron saint for Melbourne. The Mass is also part of the celebrations for Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Education Week. Next week our student leaders who attend the Mass will share their thoughts and photos of the day.
St Patrick ... pray for us
Every year, Pope Francis publishes his prayer intentions for each month. Please try to find some quiet time in your busy day to pray this prayer. Thank you.
For families in crisis
Let us pray that broken families might discover the cure for their wounds through forgiveness, rediscovering each other's gifts, even in their differences. Amen
