Toddler Time

Week 2 of Toddler Story Time saw many familiar faces returning to story time as well as many new and welcomed faces starting.  The library was a buzz of activity with lots of children and their mums and dads coming together to borrow library books for the first time this year and then sit down ready for our story, art/craft activity and then a song and dance together.

Our story this week was The Gingerbread Man, by Elena Temporina.  A familiar story for some but new too many.  Our version of this story had an interesting ending, slightly different to the ending in our song but fun either way.  After our story everyone went back to the tables and made a gingerbread house for their little gingerbread man to live in safely away from fox, people and animals that wanted to eat him. We have some very creative children and some great dancers in our group.  When it was time to dance everyone jumped up ready to start. It was so great to see.  Bravi tutti.

Week 3 of Toddler Story Time was filled with many quizzical and excited faces.  As the children walked around they quickly discovered that this week we were doing something about fish.  We quickly sat down after our borrowing and read our story, ‘Tiny Whale a fishy tale, ‘by Joshua George.  It was a story about a small orange fish with a great imagination looking for an adventure.

This week the children made their very own sensory fish tanks using a zip lock bad, laminated fish, sequins, shells and lots of blue soap on tap and water.  Once the bags very sealed the children sat down and used their fingers to move the fish around in their bags.  We had a few bags rip and some soap spill out but nothing we couldn’t handle.Fun was the most important thing to be had and we had lots of it, especially when it was time to sing and dance along to, ‘10 Fish Swimming’.  We have some amazing singers and dancers in the library each week.
