Safety is more than just following our safety guidelines while on the job. It’s a combination of attitude, behaviour and control both on and off the job.
• Attitude - When it comes to safety, attitude isn't everything, but it's close. A safe attitude means staying alert & focused on the job, taking safety guidelines seriously, avoiding horseplay, & not letting your emotions cause loss of focus.
• Behaviour - How you react to a situation is an important part of being safe. Not taking shortcuts, using your PPE, & asking questions when you need more information about a task are all safe behaviours. It also means helping others understand the importance of safe practices.
• Control - Control means taking responsibility for your work site. Keep your surroundings safe from potential hazards by keeping them clean and orderly. Keep machines in good repair, clean up spills, & make sure that walkways are free from obstacles. Report potential hazards.
Attitude, behaviour and control are important aspects of personal safety. Always take a moment to review your safety ABC's to see if you're doing all you can to protect yourself, your coworkers & most importantly your loved ones from a needless injury.
