Principal Report

Dear families,

This is the last newsletter of the term. A quarter into the year already, how time flies. I would like to thank you for your support so far this term by encouraging regular school attendance, payment of school fees (it is not lost on any of us how hard things are for families) and the support of our curriculum days.

Today's curriculum day the teaching staff are focussed today on improving their teaching of writing for students, and the ES team have a range of professional learning tailored to their roles. We all need to learn and improve, especially when the 7 Steps writing approach is so much fun!

It has been a great term so far with lots of exciting events for students, with them settling into their new classes with new peers, teachers and support staff. They have shown a great deal of resilience this year.

Some of the highlights:

  • Students in grade 56 have visited the Quantum science centre and the Grand Prix.
  • School events including Athletics, Welcome Picnic, Harmony Day and Clean Up Australia day.
  • Educationally we have run our department and national assessments for our Prep's, grade 1s and NAPLAN for year 3 and 5, as well as Parent Information Nights. Those students have shown us their best efforts and we are proud.
  • We have shared Learning Tasks for students in week 6 for reading, writing, maths and inquiry, portfolios including specialist work, and this week you will be able to access Progress Reports on Compass.
  • Parents and friends have hosted the Prep families on their first day and held a 'lady's night' locally. Thank you to the parent team that supports this work. The $$$ raised all go to new play equipment and shade cover for student spaces.
  • At a school level we have held our school council AGM (thank you to those parents for volunteering) and have cleaned up some of the garden beds at the side of the school. We are looking forward to planting this out over winter.

After a nice break for Easter, we will be back and ready for next term with renewed energy.

  • We will go straight into Parent Teacher Conferences in the first week back at school. This will be a chance to discuss student progress with your teachers.
  • We have more to follow for the other year levels with all students visiting Quantum this year. The preps will be going to the Zoo when we return in term 2. Grade 1 & 2s will have a fun day and the grade 2's will have their sleepover...at school! We also have camps on the horizon for grade 34 and 56.
  • Premier's active April and Premier's reading challenge.
  • Girls' AFL gala day for grade 56.
  • We celebrate Education Week on 16th May and will plan events during the week for students to celebrate being at school.
  • At the end of the term, we will look forward to sharing more student work with you and our semester reports.

Wishing you all the best (and rest) for the holidays.

Craig
