Message from the Executive Principal
‘I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.’
Philippians 4:13
Welcome back to Leighland Christian School! We hope you had a restful and rejuvenating break, and we are excited to embark on another school year filled with growth and learning. As we begin this new chapter, we would like to extend a warm welcome to our new staff and families who have joined our school community. We have the pleasure of hosting our Welcome to Leighland Christian School Dinner at Camp Clayton on 1 May, which is hosted by the Board and the Senior Leadership Team (SLT). It is a wonderful opportunity for our new families to connect with each other and get to know our dedicated SLT and Board members.
We would also like to welcome back all our staff and students. This year has started off on a positive note, with our student's displaying enthusiasm and a genuine eagerness to learn. Our dedicated staff members are working together to be a hope-filled Christian community that personalises real-world education. Our staff are committed to providing a nurturing and engaging environment where every student can thrive academically, emotionally, and spiritually.
In terms of changes within our team, we are delighted to introduce Ken Greenwood, who has graciously stepped in as our interim Assistant Principal. Ken will be supporting the team for the next six months while we search for a substantive Deputy Principal. This process has already begun, and we will share more information in the coming months. Ken has settled in brilliantly and is already making a fantastic contribution to our school community.
We would also like to acknowledge Mr Patrick Fabian, our Director of Learning, Curriculum and Assessment, who has decided to step down from his Senior Leadership role but remain as a part time teacher, while he campaigns as a Liberal candidate for Braddon in the upcoming state election. We wish him all the best and pray for him in this adventure.
One of the exciting developments this year is the launch of our new interschool sports program, NSATIS (Northern Sports Association Tasmanian Independent Schools). Our teams have started off strong, with the focus on tennis and basketball this term. We are proud of their competence, teamwork, and the progress they have made so far. Keep an eye on our social media platforms for updates on their achievements.
In addition to sports, there are other exciting projects happening at our school. We are in the process of building new classrooms in Burnie, which will provide enhanced learning spaces for our students. We have also constructed a Well-being/Hub Centre, as well as upgrading our high school toilets. These developments reflect our commitment to continually improve and provide the best facilities for our growing student body. We are grateful for God's provision in making these projects possible.
There are so many projects and exciting things happening at both of our campuses that I cannot mention all of them in this short article, but lastly, keep an eye out for the first episode of ‘The Buzz’ which will be released late March. I will be introducing our new teachers and student leaders. This exciting initiative will continue to showcase the vibrant happenings within our school community this year and provide a platform for students and staff to share their talents and stories.
As we embark on this new school year, let us be reminded of the words from Philippians 4:13, ‘I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.’ May this Bible verse serve as an encouragement for a joyful and successful start to the year in our learning journey.
We extend our heartfelt encouragement and blessings to each and every one of you. Together, let us embrace the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead, as we strive to create an environment where students can grow academically, spiritually, and emotionally. Here's to a remarkable year filled with growth, learning, and God's abundant grace.
