Sustainability

Frankston High School aims to achieve a high level of environmental sustainability. With a changing climate that will see shifts to more dramatic, more frequent and more dangerously prolonged weather events, it is important to do all we can to ensure the school contributes to a better future for our students.

What is Frankston High School doing?

More recently, with prolonged lobbying of school administration by the Frankston High School Eco Team, the old school diaries were discontinued from Year 9 through to Year 12, with a minimised version in place for Years 7 and 8. This has decreased Frankston High School's contribution to waste significantly, whilst also reducing costs for families. Students are still welcome to purchase their own diaries if they wish, with the hope they will choose more environmentally friendly versions where possible.

Frankston High School also has a 100,000 litre water tank on the 7-10 Campus that feeds into some school toilets and helps water the school oval; a Sustainability Policy endorsed by school council; LED lighting and sensors across parts of the school; as well as an ambition to install a solar system in the next few years to help further decrease the school's reliance on fossil fuels.

How can students get involved?

Frankston High School's best resource for environmental change and accountability is The Eco Team. This dedicated bunch of students, headed up by co-presidents Tilly Scott (Year 9) and Maggie Marriott (Year 11), meet weekly to discuss issues, support each other, organise environmentally minded events, and create a team of activated environmental leaders.

New members are always welcome!
