SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION
Last Friday, I had the privilege of attending St Xavier's School, Gunnedah, with our Confirmation candidate Grace Groves, to participate in their Confirmation Retreat. The Retreat allowed all Confirmation Candidates in the Parish to connect and make final preparations for the Sacrament of Confirmation. Fr Abmar spoke to the candidates about the importance of the Sacrament of Confirmation and explained the symbols of the Sacrament and the process that will take place during the Mass. He reassured the children to relax and embrace this special celebration. Parents were invited to a sausage sizzle lunch at the completion of the Retreat.
We want to thank the staff and students at St Xavier's for inviting and welcoming us to this Retreat.
We celebrated the Sacrament of Confirmation on Sunday at St. Joseph's Parish, Gunnedah. The Sacrament of Confirmation is the second of the three sacraments of Christian initiation. Confirmation completes Baptism, by which we are confirmed with the fullness of the Holy Spirit in the laying on of hands and the anointing with Chrism Oil, which first happened at Baptism. During this Sacrament, we are reminded of our participation in the ministry and mission of Jesus and strengthened to follow Jesus more closely by enabling the Holy Spirit to be with us as we demonstrate the Gifts of the Holy Spirit through our actions - the Fruits of the Holy Spirit.
Grace Groves was confirmed on Sunday. She chose the patron Saint's name, Veronica, the Patron Saint of kindness.
The Sacred Heart community wishes to congratulate Grace on becoming a full member of the Catholic Church.
PROJECT COMPASSION BOXES
On Ash Wednesday, students were each given a Project Compassion Box to keep in their home during Lent. Families were encouraged to make monetary contributions (big or small) to these boxes during Lent to give greater attention to those who might be in need.
During the six weeks of Lent each year, Project Compassion brings thousands of Australian schools, parishes, and supporters together to raise funds for people living in some of the most vulnerable communities worldwide.
If you made any family contributions, please return your Project Compassion boxes to school by this Friday. Thank you for supporting those less fortunate than us.

THE HEIGHTS
The Armidale Catholic Chancery has been working with the Armidale Catholic Schools Mission team to get some common messages to their respective audiences. As a result, they have developed a once-a-month publication, The Heights.
