Foundation and Year 5/6

Holy Thursday - Washing of the Feet Ceremony

Today, the Year 5/6s and our buddies had a ceremony. The Year 5/6's washed the Foundation students' feet with a cup of water and a cloth to symbolize what Jesus did many many years ago.

Zach : The water was warm, it was fun but before I was a bit scared.

Keefe : I felt pretty relaxed and calm, although it was kind of weird.

March 28th, 2024 where all of the older children washed the younger generation's feet. We also recreated The Last Supper where Jesus washed the disciples' feet. Most of the parents were there and had a good time watching the different generations bond together.

Today, we (Year 5/6 and Foundation) went to a ceremony. “I liked when my buddy, Roman, washed my feet.” Sebastian said. “We did a play about the Washing of the Feet and I was Jesus. I really enjoyed it!” Roman said.

Myself and Lucas had an awesome time!

Lucas: I loved being outside because I love outside and also I go outside everyday and run around.

Alex: I really enjoyed the play and I thought all of us did an amazing job. Overall me and Lucas really enjoyed our time together and had a great time.

Layla said when I was washing her feet the water was very warm and she was a bit embarrassed. When I was about to wash Layla's feet, she had very mixed feelings and I had some mixed feelings too.

When I (Ishe) was saying the welcome for the ceremony I thought it was very short and I wanted it longer but it was fine. I thought that it would be weird washing Ben’s feet but it wasn’t as bad as I thought! Which is good. I (Ben) thought that the water was warm even though the teachers said it was cold! But I didn’t like how Ishe wiped the warm off! It was very cool though.

Joshua: It was funny when he was washing my feet and it was like Jesus washing my feet!

Jacob: I felt nervous at first but after Joshua started laughing for a bit it made me smile.

Joshua & Jacob: Josh said he was nervous but Jacob calmed him down by talking. Jacob said he enjoyed spending time with his buddy. He is the best buddy, he could have asked for.

Ada: We were walking down the stairs and we went outside to the garden and sat down on the grass. Because of the Washing of the Feet. The grade sixes washed our feet. I loved it!

Sidesh: The big kids washed our feet. I liked it because my feet were going to get cleaned. My buddy was excited to wash my feet. And after that we went back to class.

Onella: My heart was pounding as fast as a drum because of my excitement, because obviously we were going to wash our buddies' feet. It showed a sign of respect because during The Last Supper Jesus washed the feet of his disciples. I enjoyed it too!

Today we did the washing of the feet. My buddy Ethan enjoyed the warm water, and Ethan's feet were spotless. As Ethan's buddy, I really enjoyed washing his feet but the true  reason we did this was as Marty has said 'leaders are meant to serve’ so as leaders we served our buddies by washing their feet.

Today was fantastic! After the opening ceremonies, we sat the preps on the chairs and started to wash their feet with water and a towel. On Emmet's view, he was confused because we made him take off his shoes and socks, then he realised that we were going to wash his feet!

I (Scarlett) felt excited because of the music playing when my buddy washed my feet.

Steve enjoyed it when I washed his feet and he said “ It felt warm when Roery washed my feet”. We prayed all together in harmony (it means to God). Steve’s favourite part was when I poured water on his feet. He was ticklish. Our feet were washed because Jesus died on the cross and he did it to his disciples. My (Roery) favourite part was when I washed Steve's feet. His feet felt nice because maybe he had a bath with extra soap before heading to school.

We both felt good and calm. It was a bit nerve-racking to narrate and wash/have our feet washed but it was nice to do something nice for someone. Jaimee thought the music was very calming and she liked it.

While everyone was looking at us, and I grabbed a cloth, Denise giving us water, it was my turn to wash Avatea’s feet. I was scared that his feet were going to be dirty and stinky but it was the complete opposite, it was clean and smelt good! My buddy, Aleisha, washed my feet, it was so warm and nice, then she dried my feet and put my socks and shoes back on. It was the best feeling ever!

Finbar ~ I Loved when my buddy washed my feet.

Glendon ~ I thought I would not enjoy washing my buddy’s feet but I did it and it was better than I thought.

Glendon and Finbar~ We enjoyed it because Finbar liked his feet washed and I liked doing it.

Today was the Washing of the Feet Ceremony. We were recreating when Jesus

washed his disciples feet at The Last Supper! It was amazing, recreating a moment that happened 2000 years ago! We thought that this would be a little weird, doing this action that Jesus did a long time ago, but it was great - going deeper into the moment!

Elena sat down on a chair, I knelt down, all eyes watching us and the other groups. The Grade 5s and 6s took off their buddies shoes and socks and then started pouring a cup of water on their feet. Some feet were stinky and others were clean. I then started drying Elena's feet, it 'tickled a little' she said. Then we put on our buddies shoes and socks. It was a weird experience for me, but I know that Elena liked it.

First we sat down on the grass and the Year 5/6s did a play and it was cool. Then Connor cleaned my feet.

Year 1

Last week in Art, we began making Easter cards. We used different types of pattern paper to create a colourful and unique Easter egg for the front cover. This week in Writing, we wrote messages inside. What a fun way to end such an exciting and busy term!

Happy Easter!

Year 2/3

Hello Families,

It has been a FANTASTIC last week of school with the 4/5 and 5/6 Inquiry Expo. We all learnt so many interesting things about the human body. We also celebrated Harmony Day the previous week and it was wonderful to see, taste and experience the diversity that makes Sacred Heart so unique. Thank you, to all parents and family that have helped throughout the term. We are off to a great start and I wish you all a safe and Happy Easter.

Year 3/4

This week the Y3/4s had the pleasure of going to the Year 4/5 and Year 5/6 Inquiry Expo. We learnt lots of interesting facts about the Human Body and saw the excellent work the students put into their presentations and props to demonstrate how the body worked. Here are some comments about what the Y3/4s learnt at the Expo.

Sai - If all the nerves were stretched out they would reach the moon.

Laura - I learnt that you have a really small blind spot in your eye.

Georgia - Your middle fingernail can grow faster than the rest of your fingers.

Katalina - If a light is shone in your eye, your pupil will go smaller.

Mia - The liver, below your chest, has a lot of jobs to keep your body safe. Inside the liver there is a part that if you licked it, it would be sour.

Olivia - Men's fingernails grow faster than womens.

Viraj - The liver is the largest solid organ in the human body.

Lawrence - The bone is harder than concrete.

Wellbeing

In Wellbeing we are learning about the Feelings Strength Bar. There are 4 Feelings Strength Bars for different emotions. The 4 Feelings Strength Bars are Happy, Sad, Worried and Angry. The Feelings Strength Bar helps us to recognise the level our feelings and emotions. Arvin & Viraj

Yesterday we learned about the Feelings Strength Bar in Wellbeing, so that we can tell where we are on the feelings scale of red or green.  Some of the emotions on the Feelings Strength Bar are - happy and angry. We identified some of our worries and decided if we can control the worry or not and if we cannot control it, we can wipe that worry off. There are also a lot of other feelings like sad, angry, and happy. Katalina, Sai & Mia.

Year 4/5

On Tuesday 26th of March, we had our Inquiry Expo about the Human Body. My topic was the skin. I used a diorama and a slideshow to present my work. A moment that I liked was when a teacher said that my talk was simple to understand and that I did a great job!   Brenton

On Tuesday, the year 4/5 and 5/6 had their amazing Human Body Expo. It was so much fun. My presentation was so packed, especially when the Foundation students came. I was talking about why we have different colored skin and also about the eyes - you know, it’s not only about genes!! I had so much fun telling different things to everyone so they could learn more about the skin and eyes.   Aleisha

On Tuesday we had the Inquiry Expo where we did a project research on a part of the human body. Mine was about blood and nerves. I created a 10 page slide show where I told everyone what nerves and blood are and how they work.   Tristan

On Tuesday this week, the year 4/5 and 5/6, had their presentations about the human body which were all very interesting. Our presentations were about bones and the eyes. Some were amazed at our amazing facts. In our opinion. The Expo was very good! We loved it!   Callix and Tiffany

On Tuesday this week, we had an Expo. We were presenting to other students in the school something about the human body. I presented a slide show about veins. My pop came to see my slide show. We researched a lot and I think I did very well.   Cody

At the Inquiry Expo, it felt great seeing the whole school come and see our projects. We all worked really hard to make them interesting and informative. We think everyone liked the presentation.   Azariah and Shamus

Harmony Day is when people celebrate our diversity. I liked it when there was a parade and we got to see everyone’s different dresses. One moment that I really liked was when I had a photo taken of me and Tristan.   Brenton

Last Thursday was Harmony Day. We all dressed up in our cultural clothes. We went into different groups and did activities. First we did the coloring of the flags. There were so many different flags such as the Vietnam, Italian, Chinese, Nepal and Philippines fags. Next we went to Alex and Connor’s soccer clinic. We did some basic things like dribbling around the cones and some shooting at goals. Before home time, we had Assembly. We got to show off our outfits.   Jasmine and Natalie

Last week we had Harmony Day. I was so excited to see all the awesome outfits that everyone wore. I was wearing a blue and gold dress, it was so pretty. Later in the day, we had many activities to do. I did Art, Sport (Soccer), Cooking (Pasta) and Dance. After the amazing activities, we had a parade which was super fun! Finally, we ended the day with the Assembly. I loved Harmony Day!!!   Aleisha

For Harmony Day, I didn’t dress-up but I did wear my country’s colors. It was fantastic to see all sorts of different colors and traditional clothes. Later in the day, we did lots of fun activities like Bocce, Cooking, Art and Dance. It was a marvelous experience!   Nirav

My thoughts about Harmony Day was that it was a great day because of the different activities we had and how much fun we had at them. My group first did Bocce, an Italian game that is popular world-wide. It was fun to play, especially when you had to pick up a heavy ball.  My second activity was Art and it was about coloring a country’s flag. I did mine with Denise and Yianna. There were flags from countries like Vietnam and the Philippines. I think Harmony was spectacular and lots of fun.   Stephanie

Year 5 /6

A Focus on Feedback

As a focus this year the staff and students are exploring the power of feedback and how it can improve our performance as students. In Year 5/6 we are looking at the K-S-H strategy ~ where we give feedback to our peers and use Kind, Specific, and Helpful feedback. We will use this strategy across the curriculum, but the main focus will be on student writing and Writer's Notebook.

Our Feedback Structure on how to become better writers.

Shout Out

A big shout out to our school leaders who have begun the school year brilliantly. Raffles, icy-poles, organising Caritas and Project Compassion etc are all jobs that they have done willingly. The most impressive thing, however, has been the way they have conducted themselves throughout the term. Well done Jacob, Onella, Ishe and Harper!!

Stations of the Cross

A big thanks to Kate and the staff responsible for the creation of the Stations of the Cross, which complimented beautifully the Washing of the Feet ceremony held this morning. In small groups, the senior students read from Scripture and prayed the Stations of the Cross in a thoughtful and prayerful experience.

Connor leading the SOTC around the school.
What a great way to learn the story of the last few days of Jesus' life.
