Year 10 to 12

Outdoor Education - Year 10 Warburton Expedition

In week 6 students from 2 Outdoor Education classes were given the opportunity to attend an overnight camp in Warburton. Led by Tim Bourke along with Warburton Adventure Company, it provided a fantastic opportunity for students to contextualise their learning, particularly of Types of environments and Environmental management strategies.

After arriving at the beautiful Britannia Park campground, students set up their tents and then went on the La La Falls hike, where after a 40 minute uphill trek we were met with the serenity of the waterfall. After learning about the Indigenous culture and history of La La Falls, and doing some intrinsic reflection, students headed back to camp to cook their meals on the Trangia. While most were a success, other meals, although containing entrée, main and dessert were a bit more doom than boom.

On the second day students were taken to the Rainforest Walk/Gallery, where again we learned about the human impact on environment and management strategies put in place to protect Victoria’s fantastic forests.

Following this, students got to experience River Sledding for the first time. Traversing down part of the Warburton section of the Yarra River, students had to navigate themselves through deep and shallow water, through currents and fast-moving streams of water.

A very busy and adventure packed 2 days indeed, and an experience that students should be proud to have participated in.
