Harmony Week

On Thursday of week 9, we showed our support for cultural diversity and an inclusive Australia by wearing orange. During the week students participated in fun activities to explore different cultures and encourage inclusiveness.

Students in 1407 and 1408 explored the message ‘everyone belongs’ by listening to the author of the book ‘Where?’ read it and talk about why she wrote it.

The author, Jordan Collins, grew up being asked ‘Where are you from?’ all the time which frustrated her and made her feel like she was different and didn’t always belong.

We thought about other questions we could ask people that might be new to the school or we don’t know very well so that they might feel more welcome rather than just asking them ‘where are you from?’ Our questions are displayed in the resource centre.

It’s important to welcome people no matter what they look like or where they are from and to find out more about their interests and what they like to do rather than just where they are from.
